I have been trying to cook pound-weight haggises, which call for about 45 minutes; however, all instructions I have researched seem to be contradictory on boiling. Specifically, should a haggis be placed in cold water and brought to a boil before simmering, or put in already-boiling water before turning the heat down to simmer?

how can this be the traditional way? there was no tin foil in the olden days.
