This is the historical church and cathedral segment of DIY Travel - Sofia and the host Charles Huang will visit two of the most famous churches and two of the oldest in the world. First being the Cathedral Saint Aleksandar Nevski, a Bulgarian Orthodox cathedral. Built in Neo-Byzantine style, it serves as the cathedral church of the Patriarch of Bulgaria and it is believed to be one of the 50 largest Christian church buildings by volume in the world. It is one of Sofia's symbols and primary tourist attractions. Just across is the Tombs of Unknown Solider, located just next to the 6th-century Church of St Sophia. The monument commemorates the hundreds of thousands of Bulgarian soldiers who died in wars defending their homeland. The Saint Sophia Church is the oldest church in the city and dating to the 4th century. In the predecessor building took place the Council of Serdica held most probably in 343 and attended by 316 bishops. In the 14th century, the church gave its name to the city.
