As American expats living in Germany, things haven't always been easy, but we embraced our expat life and have grown to love our life in Germany.

3:20 it's not just the alphabet. Great Russia speaks Bulgarian dialect. The Church Slavonic language is Bulgarian, all their old books are Bulgarian

A very nice video, just a couple of remarks. Alexander Nevski, after whom the biggest church in Bulgaria is named, is a Russian warrior saint but he lived in the Middle Ages (I believe in the 13th century), so not to be confused with the late 19th century Russian-Turkish Liberation War of 1977-1878. As for the patriarch, or the leader of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, the reason there are so many flowers and wreaths at that church (its name is Sveta Nedelya, or Holy Sunday) is that he was buried there after his recent passing about a month ago. As for the hierarchy in the Orthodox church, it is different from the Catholic Church where you have the Pope as the head of the whole church worldwide. In eastern Orthodoxy, each national Orthodox church has its head of church, called Patriarch, but he is only the head of the respective national church. For example, there is a Bulgarian patriarch, a Greek Patriarch, a Serb, Romanian, Russian, Ukrainian, etc., so no unifying figure like the Pope in Catholicism. There is the so-called Ecumenical Patriarch who resides in Istanbul, a historical remainder of the once mighty Byzantine patriarch, but the current one (he is Greek though a Turkish citizen) is nothing like the Byzantine patriarch in the past. Anyway, enough of this history/religion stuff, I am glad you enjoyed our capital Sofia :)

In the original version of the Cyrillic alphabet, composed by St. Kliment Ohridski, there are 44 letters for the 44 sounds, in contrast to the current Bulgarian alphabet with 30 letters. That is, we do not write like the Russians, but they write like us. The reverse is insulting.

The eastern otrodox church have a head and it is the so called universe or universal patriarch and he resides in istanbul or constantinopol(the present one name is bartolomeus, or bartolomey), but all nation have their own patriarchs and are with independent church or with autonomous church, and the most important ortodox churches are the greek, the bulgarian, the serbian and the russian- in this order by importance, cause greece have 17 monasteries in aton, bulgaria,serbia and russia have one each and this shows wich are the most important churches and the bulgarians addopted christianity in 886, serbia may be century later and russia about that time

Alexander nevski is a russian ruler a tzar that defeated the teutonic order many centuries ago on an ice lake, where they fell into the water because the ice didnt held the weight of the armored horses and horseman, but the church is build to conmemorate the 200 000 russian soldiers that died liberating bulgaria from ottoman title of tzar actually originates from 900s a.d. Bulgaria and simeon the great is our first tzar, while russia adopted the title in the 16th came from the caesar and means emperor in slavic language

Realise that general Nevski wrote the music to the ballet "Swan Lake, and Sofia was liberated by Engelbert Humperding and Mighty Pyton.
