Tried getting into statues couple of weeks ago, joined a bunch of the FB groups but got overwhelmed by the spammed affiliate links to Sideshow. Really turned me off from the whole experience, but they are a beautiful art form.

I collect both 6 scales and statues, this is my take...

6 scale figures for pose ability, space and shelve presents.

Statues for detail, craftsmanship and art presents.

Statues are like what movies were whey they were Laser Discs. They're HD quality but big, heavy and impractical. Soon they made them smaller and smaller and with more features. So now you've got DVDs and Blu Rays and even direct to Streaming. Action figures with statue-like sculpts are your Blu Rays and DVDs and Streaming. You've got statue-like sculpts AND articulation as well as the durability that statues don't have. So you choose: Blu Ray or Laser Disc? Put it that way. ;)

the statuettes are further away from the collector's personality because those are, those remain, without a subjectification. The figures on the other hand, even when they are only posed, reflect the soul and personality of the collector.

Well look at this, my two favorite collectors in one video. Wizard!
I actually collect both, statues and Hot Toys figures. Started collecting statues in 2016 and Hot Toys in 2018. I love them both, statues for their size and overall presence, and Hot Toys for their vast variety of characters and crazy realistic portraits. There are pros and cons to each but one thing Hot Toys and statues share is they both display amazingly well. Anyone new to collecting can't go wrong with either. Oh and one last thing, Hot Toys is even more enticing now that they are pumping out more 1/4 figures. If they expand on their quarter scale line, they may hook even more collectors.

Justin/Chris, hopefully you both can collaborate on more videos. Perhaps a once-a-month highlight show.
Then you can each bring your expertise and perspective to a 1/4 scale figure and/or a 1/3 scale statue review.... this would be very lively and entertaining to watch!

I definitely prefer figures for sure. I much prefer a larger scale like in 1/4 scale.
I think it's the perfect scale for me and sometimes details are much better in that scale in comparison to 1/6 and I have more freedom to pose.
Also, I would love to have more 1/4 scale release from hot toy figures and would prefer to have the option to have both the crazy base and the standard base.

Great video! I watched the entire thing! Nice to see two worlds collide and just talk and celebrate both communities. One question I wished was asked was, wtf does Justin even do to afford the figures? Did he just inherit a bunch of money? 😅
