As a German, I think I better refrain from comparing the two tanks due to the risk of bias. However, let me say one other thing: I am deeply grateful that the USA and Germany have been allies ever since WWII. I believe both nations should remain united in their determination to defend freedom and democracy - with diplomatic means if possible, but if necessary also with tanks.

At roughly 4:50 in the video, you describe how the comparison will be the original unimproved versions of each tank. It's a mystery to me how "original unimproved versions" is relevant to modern warfare? A great history lesson for sure, but certainly not a contemporary comparison. Otherwise, a great video. I'm a huge Leopard 1 and 2 fan, but in spite of the better speed and armour, I think it is too difficult to call a winner among these two. They are probably the best two tanks ever made. It will be interesting to see how they perform in Ukraine.

Abrams tank can take almost any fuel. It also can be reloaded quicker.

Btw the ammo type the Abrams is shooting, was developed by the German company Rheinmetall. The leopard 2 has also a bit better penetration than the M1 Abrahams. And the canon is also from Rheinmetall.

Hard physics: there are reasons that the standard applications for a 13mm bolt are virtually identical to a 1/2" bolt (i.e. strength of materials), 14mm vs. 9/16", 25mm vs. 1", etc.
The general similarities between Leo2 and M-1 simply indicates that both sides came to the same (or similar) conclusions. The Rheinmetall 12cm ("4-inch") smoothbore was the best choice.
(1500 h.p. Turbine diesel engine vs. 1500 h.p. I.C.E. diesel, notwithstanding) The logistical complexities of the M-1 Turbine engine could pose an Achilles heel... while the Leo2 modular drivetrain swap capability could make the Leo2 the primary NATO standard... fwiw, while the M-1 typically runs on "jet fuel", but can operate on gasoline and diesel (i.e. "multi-fuel), the Leo runs on diesel... simplified operation (i.e. shorter training time) of Leo2 can also prove an advantage. Chrysler Defense vs. KraussMaffei; Decisive may be how many can be rapidly fielded.
WWII Sherman vs. WWII Panzer; The Sherman was by far more agile vs. the Panzer, the Sherman ran on gasoline - aka "Ronson"/"Zippo" fuel (among others, simplifying logistical support); production/fielding numbers overwhelmed the technical superiority of the WWII German Panzer. While many may swoon over the "invincibility' of the WWII German Panzer, Germans dreamt of Soviet T-34s...or had nightmares. Also, fwiw, Congress has bought thousands of the M1, despite DoD never asking for them.

The U.S. M1 depleted uranium sabot round is the game changer. That would destroy the German tanks.

Abrams are great tanks, provided they are supported by huge refueling convoys! Their fuel consumption is truly horrific (about 2 gallons per mile off-road) compared with the Challenger 2 and Leopard 2's V12 turbo diesels.

I think the leopard is indeed better statistically, but the Abrams is a way more proven design. I guess the leopard still needs to prove itself.

lol..american or geman tanks since WWI?? Really? name one american tank used in WWI. Germany had only one--IIRC less then 50 were built. And then showing a T34. Good job...PS: the gun of the M1 is made by Rheinmetall

They are both quite similar, its usefull to know that the abrahms was the result of a military co-operation between us and germany in the 60ies. Thats why they look so similar: The grand-grand-father of the Abrahms was a German Leopard. Today I guess it depends on the tank crew, as I know in most competetions between Nato-Countries Germans are a bit better then the US ones even in accuracy.

The Abrams gas turbine engine can run on anything that will burn, the fuel control of the turbine will have to be adjusted for the fuel that they are supplied with in theater. The top speed for the Abrams from what I have read was 40mph, but that might be for the latest version and not the earlier one.
