Well you can! Sorta...

This is GOMPS, or the Generic Online Multiplayer System and it allows you to add basic multiplayer support to single player games, enabling people to observe your game play, interact with other GOMPs, leave notes/hints, etc. Right now its only for Unity powered games, but Unreal Engine game support is coming soon.

Hello, maker of Gomps here. Thanks for making this video! Please upvote this comment or pin for visibility, I want to clarify some things.

Gomps does not let you spectate other people's games, all you see is where they are and where they're looking. You only see ghosts floating around you. So it can still be fun for a streamer to have everyone join them, but people will still need to watch the stream to know what's actually happening in the streamer's game.

Also, Unreal Engine isn't actually in progress now, it's just something I hope to do eventually, but no promises.

It may sound too aggressive, but from a developer's standpoint it looks like a HUGE security breach. It is obviously spectator-like, however if it is able to interact inside of a game, potentially on both most popular engines without preparation is quite scary. I am interested on how this works, but it is neither a "multiplayer", nor adding a "multiplayer", in a traditional sense of course. Keep those vids up, you really provide a lot in game-dev newsfield.

I personally appreciate these sorts of videos that help me stay aware of what’s out there even if I’d never use it. Especially since I’m trying to cutdown on Twitter which is where I usually get this sort of information. Just felt the need to put this out there after seeing another comment on this video saying otherwise.

Sort of based on those hacks that intrude on games like Mario Kart and even Octopath Traveler 2. Where outsiders boost enemy stats and lower yours without inviting them.

Nah wouldn't call you a damn liar at all Mike. One of my teachers offers a ready to use multi player plug in for UE. Only makes sense somebody has to be working on something like this. As always thanks for keeping us up to date

so from what I understand it is servers connecting as clients to other servers, as you can see the player, but there are no interactions in the game itself.

Source Engine actually has something similar. It wasn't point and click. But, you could enable multiplayer through the developer console and have other people join your game.

If your hosting and leaking your ip that danger for hacking to hack your pc so they proxy checks to prevent some degree. For example spaming but all guess. As I know it easy to hack some pc or spam request to like multiples clients to fill with screens of other viewers.
