Thank you, Reed for giving an update and I hope your Mom and sister stay well. Do not second-guess your trip to Florida, you needed to be there.

I don't think anyone in the southern states North Carolina, Tennessee, especially thought this kind of devastation would happen so they were not prepared. They have been through hurricanes and tornadoes before, but not like this. Prayers for these dear people.

Reed, you're coverage was second to none, this storm was worse than anyone could have predicted.

Well Reed you can always remember to come to the Southern Appalachian area in the future. I totally understand your regret. We have to learn from our precious decisions and move forward. Anyway, if you do come to the region to report in the future please stage in a safe area and not be running the roads up here please. We need you around and your momma definitely needs you around even more.

It’s crazy Reed, that the best and most informative weather information for our Southern Appalachian area, southern coastal area, Georgia etc is provided by a Meteorologist from Oklahoma. I also appreciate your obviously sincere concern and regret. We don’t usually hear the sincerity here. You are now my main weather source.

A lot of tornadoes in NC from this storm. An EF3 hit Rocky Mount NC. as Helene moved through.

Hurricane churning inland and squeezing into mountain territory is awful. We tend to settle in valleys for water access and, boom, that’s where this precipitation ends up.

My mom is near Ocala. I’m calling her right now. She’s a GA/ FL girl. My father was a NC (Cleveland County born) AL/ FL boy. I’m a S FL boy who has also lived in NC. We persevere because that’s all we got. Heads up!

My sister's husband and his mother had purchased a home on Keaton Beach last year.. needless to say.. after taking a direct hit, the water was so insanely high it just took it off the stilts and floated it away. Nothing left. No insurance offered in this area.

I'm a Nebraska boy.. but been in Ike when I was young. Still, this was the first time the devastation of such an event really touched me. Seeing my brother in law spend a day crying.. I'm praying for everyone effected.

I have family in Savannah Ga. They have many trees down. My family doesn't have power. The power company is giving an estimate of Tue before power can be restored. This storm had a wide path of destruction.

Got a very good friend in Morganton. Finally heard from him this morning that he's safe, but his sister lives up in Asheville, and they haven't been able to contact her, can't get to her. Cell service is still spotty, mostly touch and go for that whole area of eastern Blue Ridge.

As for how you covered this, you did your best and provided tons of live data to everyone that watched your feeds. My gut told me west NC was gonna get slammed...

I can’t believe some of the asinine critical comments. This is what Reed does for a living and he’s the best there is. No one on his team was happy about this. Trust me.

Some people think that once a hurricane hits the Gulf Coast that it's over, so far from true
