We had two this year with a ton of fat. I had never seen anything like it! Now I’m upset that I didn’t save it. I was scared I wouldn’t be able to get the smell out. I’ll definitely give it a try next season!

I’ll be honest, I’ve never seen a deer with fat that thick on the belly. I grew up in south Texas, and the deer are small there. I never even thought about the tallow, probably all ended up in sausage. Binging your channel, love it all!

I grew up Mennonite and we burned tons of candlesticks made from deer tallow.

You should read a biography of Elmer Keith, father of the .44 magnum.
His mother saved his hand with the help of a tallow infused glove.

As I'm new to your channel i am watching your videos in reverse but I am excited to actually use deer tallow as my gf's family is full of hunters and I am really big into using 100% of animals I harvest.

Loved that your using it and not letting it go to waste

People won't accept deer tallow until it has a unique name, like lard or schmaltz. I suggest Chumph, Hufna, Grulm, or Choost.
Any other suggestions?

We use that hard fat in our meat for making deer burger. People are always putting pork fat in it and it's unnecessary, cause there's plenty of good fat on the deer and keeps the taste natural. Good for you guys using old methods and making soap and stuff out of the fat. Great videos 👏👍

I find that really gross but I appreciate your channel so much because you show sustainable eating by foraging, planting and using up all you have!

Would you be willing to go through how you render the tallow? I'd like to use my own scraps from cooking, but I'm not sure how to efficiently separate it from impurities, especially in small batches.

I’m in northern Minnesota and I have never seen so much tallow on a deer! Is it because of where you live?

Look up Indian dishes for these ingredients!

That is the fattest deer Iv ever seen. Iv always left the fats with the gut piles for the animals to have. I may have to change that.
