The x1 is obviously not a people hauler. So to criticize for being tight for 3-5 people is a non starter. A very nice sub compact for the class. I’m waiting for the 2025 x3M40/50.

Agree with your review. Start stop is a pain to turn off. Would be nice to save a default driving profile but that does not exist. Wife hates the delay from stopped position. Also, never thought to ask about a garage door opener…. Apparently made into an option. Back to acura as soon as this lease is up.

I hate the stop and start on the X1 that you can't turn it off on the personal mode. But there is a way around it. You just need to put a shortcut to turn it off every time you start driving. My old 2015 335xi has the stop and start turned off permanently. In my opinion the stop and start feature is terrible on the car unless what was mentioned on a hybrid.

Apparently you have not driven the M35- just bought it and the lag issues are not noticeable at all plus paddle shifters. No Start stop button is an issue waiting for beamer code update

It doesn’t feel like an eternity at all to accelerate from a stop into busy traffic. Yes there’s a barely perceptible lag but not as described on this video
Secondly you can get lumbar support by saving a seat position with seat massage. My car has excellent lumbar support. Also the start stop is so smooth I had to turn off the volume and really focus at first to figure out if it’s working. Your assessment is surprising.

Great review. I am looking at the M35i variant and have been waffling between this more efficient model you are reviewing here or the perhaps more powerful model. I wonder if the 'Auto Stop/Start' functionality is configured the same way in the drive modes in the m35i?

The owner's manual says the auto-stopped engine will start when the brake pedal is released.

Hello and thank you for the mostly good review. But you can order this model with paddleshifters and also with lumber support in the seats. Beside that I agree with your comment regarding the auto start stop.

If these seats dont fint you there are 2 options, one, take care of your health and lose some weight, i have a IX1 and they are big. number 2, get the msport version, has massage seat and lunbar support.
We traveld 2 ppl for 8 days and even slept in the car, works great, it has more room than any car in the same size.
Paddelshift is for the m-sport or an extra to buy when ordering sometimes.

I have this car and it is downright dangerous the delay before the car starts to react. What happens is you overcompensate and that makes some jerky movements.
Yes, one can somewhat predict what is going to happen, but it's dangerous nevertheless.

This is not your grandpa's starter...
BWM seems to be quiet on this subject, but my guess is that the starter is mostly not needed with the mild hybrid system helping the dinosaur-fuel engine to get going.

Very accurate report on the stop/start lag/lurch aspect of the X1. This aspect also is harrowing when moving in a tight space where a sudden forward lurch is disconcerting.
Paddle shifters are available as an option.
Another issue is the AWD that is inadequate in snow— going slow on a curve the car simply skates wherever it wants to go.

You have to do better homework, cancelation of a start stop is available in any drive mode, not only in sport mode. You find it in a menu and add yo a short cuts, then you simply swipe down on a screen and get to the function.
I agree it’s not as convenient as physical bottom.
We have this car since November 2022, and I can say it have an amazing fuel economy and amazing brakes.
Unfortunately we didn’t have an option back days for a lumbar support and massage seats as we’ve got HEA package, but today, today you have so many options, to customize your x1 or newly coming x2

In 2025 the X1 M1 version will come with 507 HP, this will give you confidence in traffic.
