Thanks for this. I adopted my first crestie at the end of October and was shocked to discover my 6 gram baby was almost a year old. He's putting on weight, but I'm always looking for more ways to encourage his growth. I've been giving him mini dubias, but after seeing this I think I'll switch to a larger size.

great advice Wally!!

A few months back I decided to move a few female cresteds that seemed “stuck” in the weight scale from a room in the house that stays cooler 68-75 to the animal room that stays 80 all year round and I have noticed the metabolism speeding up and their growth just getting better and better. I’m mostly doing this for those females that I want to get to breeding weight for the spring as for babies I do personally prefer a slower growth rate to ensure a healthy development!!

Ive checked a couple of channels, and yours is by far the most informative when it comes to Crested Geckos, thanks Wally, greetings from South Africa.

Thanks for telling me about the heat. I noticed my adult females like a heat mat on the wall. But never thought about it for the babies.

Great video Wally! Super helpful about the feeder insects with babies, I know that I always tend to lean towards the conservative side when it comes to insect size with the little ones. This was really helpful thank you!

I think I've just been convinced to spring for a 25W ceramic heat emitter and a fixture. It's stays around 68° in my room. I sure didn't want to. I've spent over 700 on the bioactive enclosure alone, and I didn't splurge at all.

I used to cohab female cresties and Leos or a male with one or two females. I stopped doing that a few years ago and they’re all healthier as a result.

Great video
Warmer temps and lots of food
Feed Black Soldier Fly Larvae at least once week helps too
My babies have only 1 night per week without food

Once again you and the leopard gecko channel have given me the best info yet very few people ever say to use heat for cresties but the lively `ness from a non heated gecko and a heated gecko are 2 different things .I use a arcadia deep heat penetration heat light for deep tissue penetration and geckos growing like a weed . good info 2 thumbs up .

With heat what would you recommend for people that lives where it is 71 on a cool day? Without any additional heat it is in the mid 70’s

I think you forgot to mention genetics....we have adult Geckos that are just smaller then others from different breeders. We also recently had twins pop out of one egg....the behemoth that popped out of that 2nd egg is today still twice as big as the twins. All three tanks are right next to each other, all three eat the same food at the same schedule, and all three came from the same parents. Bubba looks like one of the twins while the other looks different from the parents. A genetically large gecko will create more large geckos....I would like to see more breeding for large animals....100 gram examples for instance with big structure rather than obese. I've seen some big one's from a single breeder at Tinley not too long ago. Thanks for making the videos! Happy Holidays
