“I paid $205 for insurance with GEICO, and really was unhappy with them. I stayed with them so long because I couldn’t find it in me to go through the agony of comparing companies. The Penny Hoarder gave Jerry a great review and I am so happy I gave them a try!” — M. Swatt

“Jerry took care of everything, even canceling my old policy and getting me a refund!” — S.C.

“Saved $600 a year. Every 6 months Jerry automatically checks rates again.” — B.D.

“It has better pricing than going directly to the Insurance Company. I have used Jerry for two policies now.” — Dave M.

“I downloaded 3 insurance searching apps and Jerry was the best one by far. Easy. Accurate. Great customer service!” — Kyerra S.

When you buy home insurance, you’re likely to find something called “other structures coverage” listed in your policy. This is a coverage type that’s found in most standard home insurance policies, but you may not know what it is. Let’s go through the basics of other structures coverage so you know what kind of protection you’re paying for.

Other structures coverage helps to fix or replace structures that aren’t connected to your home if they’re damaged by a covered risk. Items that are defined as other structures include:
— Detached garages
— Fences
— Sheds
— In-ground swimming pools
— Guest houses
— And gazebos

If they’re used for residential or leisurely purposes, then they’re likely covered. Your business property may not be covered by other structures coverage.

Other structures on your property are usually covered for the same risks as your home. In most cases, other structures are covered for 10% of your dwelling limit. The dwelling limit is the maximum amount that your home insurance policy will pay to rebuild or repair the physical structure of your home.

Fixing or replacing other structures can be expensive. If you think the built-in coverage in your home insurance is insufficient, you have the option to increase your policy limit. If you make improvements to your property — like adding a pool or guest house — it’s recommended that you review your other structures coverage limit to ensure you have enough protection.
