Nymeria couldn't return to Arya anymore but she remembered who raised her and understands she was sent away to save for her life

In the books the direwolves were a big part of Starks. It was mentioned all the time how Jon entered Ghost's mind, even Arya entered Nymeria's mind. The Stark kids thought about their wolves a lot in the books, aswell as other people because it was mentioned several times that there was a massive pack of wolves in the forests lead by a massive direwolf.

Cat Stark thought about her kids wolves aswell, especially while in Riverrun.

But the show? Wolves suddenly stopped existing. The main thing about Starks..

Like the other direwolves, Nymeria is supposed to juxtapose their human counterpart. Both Arya and Nymeria were released into the wild, no longer tamed or innocent. Arya can’t go back to the subdued lady role of Westeros to be a marriage token, and Nymeria can’t go back to being a pet.

I wish Nymeria and her pack had gone with Arya. They would have been great companions to Ghost and would have added all sorts of interesting possibilities to the battle against the white walkers.

I know a popular theory at the time was that the waif had killed Arya and taken her face. This scene called BS on that. Nymeria would have been able to sense a fake and the waif would have been wolf chow.
