Great review. Good to see a review of reasonably priced gaming laptop. 👍

I got the G7 the other day, willingly voided the warranty, changed the thermal paste almost out of the box, and now the temps never go over 80 degrees (usually around 70), and both fans are usually around 50-60 percent. Sure, it's a bit noisy, but works flawlessly, .

I fixed my overheating issues with a new thermal paste. I used arctic mx-4 and now the cpu runs about 70 degrees and the fan rpm went from the max which is 5300 rpm to 4000 rpm. Huge difference. The original paste was bad, it was quite dry.

I've had problems with high thermals in a previous gaming laptop.
I upgraded the RAM as is was covered under warranty, as you mentioned.

After waiting for the 2 year warranty to end i replaced both GPU & CPU Thermal paste and the temps both dropped dramatically.

My question is; Does replacing the thermal paste void the warranty?

I understand upgrading the Storage and RAM is under Warranty, but what about the seemingly problematic thermal paste? I Guess So??

to those who are here in the future, the newer versions (2024 and up) come with better i7 13th and 14th gen processors and both m.2's are gen4. All while staying very close to the same price point (where I am located at least)

This laptop feels really premium for something that costs £1200 xD
How bad is the laptop market?!

Thanks for this review Marcus.Just looking at this in Scan(based in NW so nice to buy from bricks and morter) now at £900 but wanted to now the expandability ie 2nd ssd spot and 2 unsoldered ram spots.Great to see as I believe the MSI equivelant at the same price only has one ssd and the 4060 is slightly underpowered.
Having the power at the back is nice as well as I've got used to that with my Acer Nitro and wouldnt want to give that up.

Got this two months ago. Switched the original shit thermal paste with liquid metal.. CPU rarely goes above 80 degrees running heavy games on maxed out settings!! I look forward to the eventual possibility of undervolting the CPU.

Am I the only one disabling the CPU turbo mode from bios and forgetting it ever existed? It's basically always active during a gaming session, and temps get really high, disabling it give 10-15°C less degreea with a minor impact on performance that is often nullified because the turbo will end up activating thermal thrpttle

100°c on the CPU is worrying, 80 on the GPU is close to throttling too :(

Don't get this. I got itand the power cord will over heat and disconnect, so I can only get about 1 hours at max gaming. Sometimes much less. It's a known issue that gigabyte seems to have failed to address. I contacted Gigabyte, they sent me a link to update the BIOS and the link was for the wrong update. So if found the correct bios update. I updated to FB03 and now the GPU is neutered to draw only 65 watts instead of the 75 originally. I'm losing about 15-20 FPS now.

Anything is loud compared to quiet. 😂 I feel that chocking hazard isn't as bad as most devices

Is it really loud in demanding games? Also have you had any experience with the msi cyborg 15. It's meant to be quieter due to its lower wattage 4060 and it's a bit cheaper. Thanks

I just ordered this with the i7 cpu variation. Hoping that resolves the cpu bound issue!

I'm pretty sure "budget" and "RTX 4060" can't be used in the same sentence😂

Recently I was searching for gaming laptops cuz my current normal one doesn't really run those games I play and after hard thinking of an Asus Tuf, I found this one and because of it's current price on a site (999€) I tought I can buy it cuz it won't cost my whole payment of this month.
I have to say thank you for this review, because it really made my decision, maybe in the future I might buy a better, but for now, maybe a couple years, this will work, especially because the problems of it won't really bother me.

Thanks for showing us this laptop.
"1200 pounds for an entry level gaming laptop is cheap" shows the degree how monopol Intel+Nvidia's "money" made the laptop space. They can do whatever they want and people will clap for it.
Just like many reviewers clapped for the 4060 release under the marketing name of 4070 for the price of a 80 class GPU. We customers has to pay high price, as AMD abandoned the laptop business in practice.

Bad value compared to last years 3070 laptops, DLLS3, frame gen is not available in 99.999% of games. 4 core i5 with low TDP GPU and both thermal throttles, better not customize that cooling that much to silent as you gonna cook the case...
I find this high refresh obsession a joke on laptops, which cannot even hit 60 without tricks on native resolution. Especially as like 0.1% of gamers actually play on the level of a shooter game like CSGO, where you gain advantage with it.

The trying very hard to be funny/ blabbering doesn't translate well for me, I would prefer a more data focused approach, with on screen overlays presenting the important data about specs, thermals, fps etc.
