If winning the lottery is the worst thing that can happen to you, then I want to win the lottery.

Winning the lottery is not the curse, but it is how you handle it.

Step 1.) Delete all social media accounts. Step 2.) Hire a lawyer, a financial advisor, and an accountant.

Imagine winning the lottery, and then still having an overdue laundry bill.

Note, if you win the lottery, never be charitable and never be public about it. Let the heat of winning die down, invest, be cheap, and travel

The biggest mistake any winner can make is not keeping the win a secret. Of course, some states require winners to come forward, however, some dig further down the rabbit hole of thinking, "Well I have to come forward anyway. What's the harm in doing every television, radio, and podcast interview?" As shown in the video, there are still ways you can have your name out there but still stay under the radar, but it requires planning before claiming the prize. In many states, you have 6 months to claim the prize (in some states, you have up to a year). That time is pivotal in planning what you're going to do before collecting the prize. Speaking with a team of lawyers, financial advisors, and tax experts are crucial to coming up with a *plan*. Wait as long as you can before collecting the prize to let the hype die down, and after collecting the prize *stick to the plan*.

The types of people who would typically spend their winnings well are probably not the types who would play the lottery in the first place.

That's why I do the lottery where you win £10, 000 a month for 30 years. You wouldn't be overwhelmed by suddenly receiving a lot of money. You would still have something to aim towards like saving for a house. You wouldn't suddenly have every stranger asking for money. You could just quit your job, have an improved lifestyle and visit a few places around the world but you wouldn't suddenly be able to buy a 10 bedroom mansion.

There was a couple in our small desert town that won $7M in the California lottery back in 1998. It was the perfect family to win. They had 5 children and were barely getting by on Dennis's union job at the nearby Trona plant.

After winning, the family moved to a nearby town and bought an apple orchard. It seemed like a nice investment. Years later, the family disintegrated. I am not really sure what happened, but as all the kids got older, every one of them got into some kind of trouble. The couple split up and sold the orchard. Dennis moved back into town and works odd jobs. Toni still lives in the town where they owned the orchard, she now works tor a tax company.

Its sad. I was really happy when they won. Now, 24 years later, their lives are worse than before winning.

If I ever win the lottery I wanna build a local shelter for all the homeless animals.

I’d do it for people but they don’t appreciate things.

My husband has always said that if he/we were to win a huge jackpot in the lottery, he’d still live like he does now and wouldn’t tell anyone. I couldn’t understand his reasoning at the time, but I get it now.

Being rich doesn't suddenly turn an idiot into a wise man. It just makes him an idiot with a lot of money. At least for a short time.

Really, the biggest issue for lottery winners is immediately jumping into charitably. Most people almost immediately start listing off who/what they'll give money to; then you have beggars who want, if not feel entitled, to a piece of the pie. If you ever gain some massive payoff such as a lottery, you should focus on fixing yourself & your own stability before you even considering helping others, splurging, or indulging your new hangers-on.

If I won the lottery I'd quite quickly become paranoid. Any aspirations I had about living in seclusion would quickly turn in to aspirations of moving to another country where nobody knew me, my wife, my kids, or my win.

Friends of ours (husband and wife) won the Australian lottery and as far as I'm concerned good on them. My wife always complained "how can they afford to retire, purchase this and that" I just said "maybe they won the lottery, if so good on them. They both have had a hard life with many setbacks, well deserved luck in my view".

Always live in private with that kind of money.

I think the reason why lottery winners usually loose all their money is because they didn't feel like they earned it. Meanwhile businessmen rarely spend their money stupidly as they have worked very hard for it.

if I ever won the lottery, I would not tell anyone until I fixed my debt and financial problems and then only tell 2 people to avoid chaos and then disappear from existence :D
