First crusade was legendary. Great battles in numeric disavantage, strong and cunning crusaders leaders, miracles and glory.

The sequels couldn't match it.

One very important thing to stress is that one of the most crucial ingredients to successful crusades was leadership. The First Crusade happened to be led by men who already had decades of experience in commanding campaigns, most especially Bohemond of Taranto. Unfortunately most of the other crusades were led by men who did not have such sharp acumen. Emperor Frederick Barbarossa had the acumen, but was inexperienced when he was young and part of the Second Crusade, and then he had the great misfortune to drown on the way to the Third. He and King Richard the Lionheart together would almost certainly have put the Kingdom of Jerusalem back to its complete original size and larger. As it was, Richard - whose own ability was on par with Bohemond's - was able to restore the Kingdom of Jerusalem from merely a siege camp at Acre, to stretching all along the coast from Tyre to Ascalon and bought the Kingdom another 90 or so years of life. He just didn't have the manpower and resources necessary to hold Jerusalem, which we know for a fact bothered him greatly. It is really not accurate to say the Third Crusade was a failure.

Then you take a look at all the other unsuccessful crusades, and you see that the failures were primarily due to poor leadership and infighting amongst generals.

Turks indeed had a decisive role in triggering historical major events like the Migration Period, Crusades, shaping the history of Balkans, Islamization of Northern India, Age of Discovery as well as ending the Middle Ages with the conquest of Constantinople, fall of the Roman Empire.

Yo what about Battle of the Lake of Antioch - 700 v 12k? Also Antioch was where Crusaders had God-sent strength. Defeating 3 relief armies and sieging a city. Madlads.

Dorylaeum should get more credit simply because the crusader forces held their line for so long, baking in the Anatolian heat while wearing armour huddled together. A very strong and unique display of discipline from a group of people who came from atleast seven different armies (5 crusader, 1 people's crusade, 1 small byzantine contingent).

Battle of Antioch was so based. While besieged by the seljuks, Peter Bartholomew had the vision that led to the discovery of the holy lance, Stephen of Valence had a vision where Jesus spoke to him, and when they finally left the city to meet the seljuks, multiple saints were with them, and they completely crushed the Pagans. So based.
