Why Everyone Should Do Medicine Ball Slams! (Reverse Vertical Jump??)

In this video, I discuss one of my favourite moves: the medicine ball slam.

The med ball slam is a deceptively simple exercise: just take a ball above your head and then slam it down hard in front of you!

This simplicity is one of the biggest advantage of the slam. For one, it makes it very easy to learn and very hard to get wrong! And the med ball slam is very unique, in that it is a full-body, explosive movement with minimal loading and no impact! This also makes it perfect for metabolic conditioning and building strength endurance.

While it may look simple, the med ball slam is perfect for increasing jump height and building athleticism. That's because it is essentially a vertical jump in reverse. You are flexing the hip flexors, ankles, and knees to slam down into the ground as forcefully as possible. This develops the countermovement for any jump, ultimately helping you to get more air.

And that's not all...

Enjoy!

Box jumps and med ball slams together always got me really fired up for my squats and deadlifts. The combo makes you feel like you can tear through the walls. uses the core the same way as punching stuff. Just don't jump backward to get off the jump box.

This is that one fitness channel I tune into because it is practical and does not rely on crazy contraptions. There are so many channels that only concern themselves with aesthetics whereas Adam's exercises are essentially what will put meat into your bones.

Great for joints, rotational strength, and bullet proofing the spine. I never gave it much thought as a minimalist - even though you perform them a lot on the channel. I do have some gear but I'm very picky. However, I think this may be a new addition, especially if I can't find a way to get the creative brain working on making one homemade.

Congratulations again on the camera upgrade. I never saw dirt look so...clean before. Everything looks sharp and colorful. Great work as usual, Adam! 🤘🤙

I love med bell slams. And doing sit ups with them as well. They’re also great for holding between your feet and adding a little weight to pull ups.

You actually inspired me to get a medicine ball and I used rotational throws against a concrete wall in my workout today and it was fantastic!

Have D balls ( these dot bounce) from 5 to 50 kg. One of the best pieces of equipment you can buy. Trains all the smaller interconnecting muscles in a way that overlaps normal weight training and will make you stronger but the best point of ball training is how strong it will make your core muscles. I combine balls, kettlebells and weights.

Med Ball Slams are probably my second favorite exercise for cardio, only second to hitting a tire with a sledgehammer, there's just something extremely satisfying about hammering rep after rep on a tire. Great stress reliever lol.

This channel is excellent. I have integrated many exercises featured on this channel and mixing up the routine has really showed impressive results. I think variety is very key in regards to total body training. The muscle groups never seem to plateau if you are constantly mixing up the routines.

I love these exercises because there is something boyishly fun about the big tire, too. I mainly use them as a finisher to a hard workout. They use all muscles and teach muscles to work together. I like to use them as a recovery workout as well especially when I am a bit more sore then I really should be.

I did most of these exercises with a partner and 4kg ball and I confirm it is an amazing thing to add to your training. Now I have no one to train with so I just acquired a 6kg ball and go to the park to crush the ground by myself. Thanks for the video man and keep the good work you do there.
