Am no astronomer by any means but moving Mars would significantly alter the orbit of the rest of the planets unless you left the same mass in the same orbit of Mars to counteract its loss relative to the removal of its mass.Lets just get to Mars first, now that would be a logical sequence of events in my humble opinion

Why in gods name would any body bother doing this? is it just an intellectual exercise? We already have one planet in the habitable zone and we can't even look after that. Why would anyone consider dragging another one into it?

Moving Mars to the habitable zone would not be a good idea. Not only do we not have the tech. to move a planet by the time we do we won't have to move planets because we will be able to travel to any of billion of earth type planets that are in our galaxy. Anyone that thinks moving a whole planet out of its orbit is like moving furniture around their living room is a doorknob. Let's just rearrange the solar system and move all the planets we like into the habitable zone.
