Products featured in this video:

For many people, a Chromebook may be all the computer they need. They've gotten a bit more expensive in recent years, but also much higher quality. You can get a fast Chromebook with a good touchscreen and keyboard for under $800, in some cases closer to $400. Our favorites are Lenovo's new Flex 5, Google's Pixelbook Go, and the HP Chromebook 15.

I love how almost half the shots in this video were of the Samsung galaxy chromebook but it’s name was never mentioned in any capacity lol

Would've been a nice disclaimer had you told us that 1/3 of the video is an introduction to Chromebooks.

I've been a chromebook owner for a few years now and I will say it handles everything I need. However, it definitely isn't for power hungry users who edit videos or are engineering students. To me, Chromebooks have been a tablet replacement whenever i need a good keyboard and mouse support.

Thank you, my son needs one for school and this is the same software they use. This helps a lot than the staples tech staff.

I use my i5 Pixelbook Go often for software development. My routine is to develop in the morning on my Linux desktop where I have multiple screens. Later in the day I push my changes to bitbucket and pull the changes to the Go. I continue to develop on the Go Chromebook. Its very light, and has great battery life and seamless access to cloud storage. The i5 processor gives me more than enough power for developing with Debian Linux running in a sandbox on the Go. As a test I ran the Octane 2.0 benchmark using Chrome in native Chrome OS (version 83.0.4103.199) and got a 24, 014 score (best of 5). I ran the same test using Firefox running on Debian Linux on the Go and got 23, 142. That's only a 4% reduction in the benchmark performance. I generally program in C++, Python and Javascript (Vue) using Visual Studio Code. I generally use Chrome developer tools for browser debug. The only thing I have not been able to do is kernel module development on the Go. Google locks out the ability to add modules to the kernel. Running Debian Linux on the Go is trivially easy. Chrome OS acts as the desktop environment. You have a sandboxed root access to Linux on the command line.

A Pixelbook Go is my primary laptop, and I routinely edit images and video offline using the Linux applications GIMP and Shotcut. I also develop for the web, offline, using Xampp and Visual Studio Code. With ChromeOS now supporting Linux applications, I don't need Windows for anything.

Rather cheap Chromebook, than crappy slow Windows laptop.
Make sure, your chosen Chromebook has good quality touchscreen, which is necessary for proper running android .apk.

This comment section is a cesspool of PC needs who don't understand that some people simply don't want or need to run a variety of software on highly capable powerful machines. Some people want a simple, easy and cheap device that can browse the web reliably.

Lists starts at 3:50, in a 7 minute video. Most of which is good advice on how to pick a Chromebook.

My Pixelbook Go core i5 has been smashing it during lockdown and working from home. You can push it all day and battery life is great. Keyboard is the best imo.

I love Lenovo Flex 5 Chromebook, best Chromebook I've ever owned for its price and what it delivers.

Wow it's a TRAGEDY you guys didn't even mention the Acer 713.

For $629 for an i5 10th gen 128gb (with microSD slot!) 360 hinge and MORE features than that hp you mentioned... It's a crime not to mention it!

I just have to say that the lenovo is now nearly $630. I like how now that everyone needs a computer, they cost way more money!

I'm part way through this video article and so far have found it pretty unhelpful. For starters, it is entilted "Best Chromebooks of 2020 (so far)" and I'm over half way through and so far, not a single model has been mentioned. Here are a couple of major issues:

1. The suggestion to pick "at least an Intel Core 3 processor" is misguided at best. The intel-based Chromebooks have far more issues running Android apps than the Arm-based processors. Makes sense right? Since almost all phones use Arm processors and that is what Android apps are designed for with Intel support added as an after thought and sometimes not at all. For example, Sky Go doesn't run on a lot of Intel-based Chromebooks.

2. There is no mention of Android Apps in the article which is one of the main reasons for getting a Chromebook, it can finally replace your Android tablet.

3. The article was released on the 1st July, but there is no mention of the current best selling Chromebook in the world: the Lenovo Ideapad Duet. It is so popular it is sold out everywhere and on backorder. It runs android apps superbly, better than any Intel-based machine I have seen. In fact it is unanimously rated as the number one sub $300 Chromebook by most review sites.

I'm guessing the author of this vlog isn't actually a Chromebook user. I wasn't until recently. Now I have replaced my Android tablet and (casual) windows laptop with an Arm-based Chromebook and it's fantastic. It hasn't replaced by Windows desktop, but for casual use, it is brilliant.

Maybe someone as large as Engadget wants to spend a little more time researching their subject before producing a very poor video.

I'm using Samsung Chromebook Pro for 3 (?) years, it's got a QHD IPS panel - so it's a way better option than the listed.
