July 26, 2024 is a date that every sports fan has marked in his diary. It marks the comeback of one of the world's most watched competitions, the Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games. From July 26 to August 11, the 33rd Olympiad in modern history takes place, and from August 28 to September 8, the 17th Paralympic Games.
It's a huge celebration, set in a historic backdrop that's well known to the French: Paris! For a number of years now, the City of Light has been undergoing a thorough transformation to ensure that it is equal to the occasion and that athletes from all over the world are able to shine. But once the last international stars have left, the last medals have been awarded and the cameras have been switched off, what will be left of the Olympic Games? The question is all the more worrying in that, from Atlanta to Rio, Athens to Montreal, there are numerous examples of poor post-Olympic management.
Colossal debts, disproportionate infrastructures, ecological disaster... the factors are many, but they all lead to the same point: that of Olympic disaster. Can the post-Olympic era envisioned by the Paris 2024 organizers translate into a brighter future? That's what we're going to find out today in this new episode of Looking 4.

You know, as a frenchman myself I wasn't sure about Paris Olympic game. I thought it would be a disaster. But in the end, I think it might turn out to be one of the most sustainable Olympic Games ever held. As said in the video, 95% of the infrastructures are either temporary or already existing and refitted. Also, the idea of using the Seine for the opening ceremony, all across ce city, instead of holding It inside a stadium will be marvelous. I'm now confident everyone will be pleasantly surprised! :)

The modern exception was the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. It actually made a profit. Many say it saved the modern Olympics.

Paris has already the infrastructure. The city will be fine. An example also was Barcelona did well it created many places for its citizens used today. Like man mande beaches. The problem comes with cities that you have no infrastructure or citizens thay wont use the stadiums after. An example was Beijin and in the world cup South Africa where many of uts multimillion dollar stadiums were left to decay.

I think the interesting decision made by Paris 2024 team was to actually host the Olympic Games mainly in the very centre of the city. Many other cities have avoided doing this due to the chaos this would bring to the busiest part of a settlement. A far off poor suburb could of been redeveloped but still have all the cherry shots of the Effiel Tower etc for the Opening Ceremony. Crazy decisions have been made like expecting a city river to be healthy to swim in and hosting the Opening Ceremony in an unsecure massive location of a river..Hopefully it will all go well as the Olympics are fab but you feel the residents are not pleased to have it.

When the Olympics are less about actual sports and more about image and prestige, graft, over runs and waste are sure to follow. Cities that host should have to be proven Event Host capable first by hosting a Commonwealth, PANAM, World Cup or some other comparable Regional/World event first before ever being handed a games... That's kind of why I love the Brisbane 2032 concept because it largely just piggybacks off of/reuses Commonwealth Games infrastructure since they are built to the same standards in every way except perhaps seating capacity but even then that's been proven to be an non-issue since few people especially locals actually attend these events besides insiders, broadcasters and the elites who can afford the marked up everything..

As for Paris? It will be fine... Like London there will be no wasted infrastructure since if anything there's still a lack of it proportional to its population and growth pattern. It's no Montreal, Rio or Athens on that scale... And even Montreal is still going to renovate its Olympic Stadium since demolition would still cost twice as much as feeding/bathing/caring for its White Elephant... Plus it does get some use, just not nearly enough! Even Edmonton's Commonwealth now has more seats and far more use and it was originally designed as a football stadium that would also double as a Commonwealth Games athletic venue... And in 2024? Still being used on a weekly basis from large concerts to CFL football to athletics...

Mate, why are you fellas making the thumbnails look like someone bombed Paris? Even if wasn't going to all go smoothly, I don't think death and riots are the first thing you should be worrying about at the Olympic Games.

This video talks about lots of previous Olympics disasters that Paris has made efforts to overcome.

White elephant venues=>95% existing or temporary venues in Paris.

Unrealized long term environmental goals=> Paris has built a huge permanent water retention facility to keep sewer water from the river

Single tickets on the metro and RER will double in price, but the vast majority of actual parisians have a navigo card which will remain the same price.

The title is pure clickbait.

My hunch is that for popular tourist destinations the Games displace almost as much tourism and they create. All those billions do nothing for the economy.

It just the country poor governing. Beijing spent so much in Olympic history, they still use the bird nest for games and China economy bloomed to the highest in the world.

Every major event should do what Dubai did with the Expo and Qatar with their stadiums.
Become multipurpose beyond the event itself. Expo turned into a housing, shopping and college complex. With Qatar they will turn some of the stadiums to hospitals, malls and schools.
Basically a shapeshifting building.
