Do Not Pay For Excursion in St Thomas. Solo Travel is a great way to see the island without paying high prices and getting stuck on someone else's schedule. Solo Travel gives you the freedom to Get off the Ship and Start Walking! Never be scared, just go and you can always find a bus or taxi back! St. Thomas is small but there is plenty to do in 8 hours at port! Plenty of cheap taxis and buses. There is no need to book anything beforehand and traveling solo allows you to do more for less! This is our second stop as a Solo traveler on the NCL Getaway Cruise!

WHO AM I?
Hi, I am Jeffrey Eatley, I have led a crazy life and it’s not stopping anytime soon. I joined the US Navy in 1998, Drove 18 Wheelers across all 48 states for 7 years, been a casino dealer and poker room manager for 6 years, ran a donut shop, been a photographer for many large companies and magazines, and a content creator for car Dealership in Lafayette, Louisiana. I have been divorced twice, lived in an RV, almost declared bankruptcy, had 30K in credit card debt, sold everything I own, screwed up a lot, and fixed a lot. I have made really good money and lived broke at times. I have experienced so many ups and downs and I am ready for whatever is next.
Now, 20-plus years later, Another Huge Detour has arrived! I’m heading back out on the road in a semi-truck to create videos and see everything I can see.
My mission is to Travel 1 Million Miles by any means necessary. I am going to live in my truck and take my time off where ever the road takes me. Exploring Towns, making adventures, and hopefully meeting a few people along the way. Hope to see you out there!

Where do YOU want to Go on your Next Travel Adventure?

Don't want to buy shore excursions through your cruise line? There are two main things cruisers should know about leaving their cruise ship when it is in port. The first is if you are not back on board when your ship leaves port, you will be left behind and that will usually be your problem, not the problem of the cruise company. The second thing cruisers need to know is that if they do buy a shore excursion through their cruise line, they WILL get back to their ship before it sails or the cruise line will arrange and pay for transportation to the ship's next port. This is why it usually costs more to buy a shore excursion through the cruise line instead of buying directly from a local tour company.

If you do get left behind when your ship sails and did not book that excursion through your cruise line, it can be very, very expensive to buy your own transportation (plus lodging, meals, a change of clothing and a set of toiletries) to meet up with your cruise ship a few days later at another foreign port. And if you do not have your passport with you when you get left behind, making those short notice travel arrangements can become very complicated. Keep in mind there may not be daily flights available between islands/ports. You may have wait for the next weekly flight or wait for a ferry that has limited runs on the weekend or charter a private boat to take you to the next port on your cruise itinerary. And you may miss a lot of your cruise as you try to get to a port before your ship arrives there.

I really like St. Thomas. We never have done an excursion there. We always just get on a cab and go to Magen’s Bay. And I always get a Bushwacker at Paradise Point.

We loved the view of the harbor. A great shot of the ships at dock. It hasn’t changed much in over 20 years! Still pretty. Jim got my anniversary ring in one of those big jewelry shops.

Lived there for 30 years. Magens Bay was my least favorite beach. Over crowded, and water not as clear. Coki was my favorite until they built Coral World, then that got too crowded as well, but the beach itself was still beautiful and clear. I guess I would say Brewers down by the college is what I prefer now. St John has the best beaches of all USVI. ❤🌴
