I retired to Ashland by choice, in 2007, after being a regular visitor since 1960. No regrets at all.
Culture, civilization, and community. Mountain scenery everywhere. If I want big-box shopping,
it's 13 miles away. A university town. Great food, beer, wine, and coffee everywhere. Stores like Bloomsbury's, where I can get the daily New York Times. Plus I love the lithia water.

ive seen a few cars collide with deers and neither car nor deer even pauses, civic gets a new dent, deer scampers accross road. the i5 tho, theres 200 crashes with deer every year right south of ashland, ive seen some nice trucks totalled by thems.

Ashland does have a sales tax for restaurants because it is a tourist town. As a native I can attest to the fact that growing up here was definitely the most magical childhood a kid could experience. Very safe kid friendly wish I could afford to live in my childhood hometown. I lament to say Ashlnd had to close down 2 elementary schools due to outrageous living costs ugh. Families just cannot afford this tourist trap nowadays. Oh, and when I was a kid smokey summers and forest fires were not a thing. Bad management is the cause.

I went to college there from 2022-2024 and graduated. Not a fan of Ashland, but it’s one of the better towns in landlocked Southern Oregon. I vastly prefer Portland.

A couple of things to add…one is instead of sales tax there is State Income tax alongside Federal income tax which sort of takes the place of sales tax in Oregon..Most States with sales tax do not have a State income tax….the other thing concerning Ashland and the Rogue Valley in general is the rather intensive tree and grass allergy season..normally stretching from May through July..making things rather miserable with the Summer heat..But regardless Ashland is always in my heart and a part of me!

Fire season : no not in the last 10 years!!!! Very exaggerated here! It really started in 2020 . Fire caused by arson. Sale Tax : yes there is on on Food.
