Conference Travel Vlog!

I went to a genetics conference in the far away land of Canada! I presented a poster! I tried to vlog! I filmed far less than I thought I did...

Trying to document grad school one YouTube video at a time, from lab equipment to genetics lessons to interviews with other students! Each week is a new view into life as a grad student, and the rollercoaster that is getting a PhD.

I've always been jealous of people who were able to come up with questions to ask during a lecture, rather than hours later while reviewing the material.

Love the happy dance with your poster. More people need to have that kind of enthusiasm for science!

I'm about to present in a conference for the first time as an undergraduate, although it's going to be in an online setup. I immediately thought of your video when our paper got accepted! It makes me excited to present!

Conferences are amazing! Just came back from a science and technology education conference held in the Kruger National Park in South Africa. I presented 3 papers. Was great to meet like minded academics and then go on safari in the afternoon! Who says business before pleasure? Why not both at once?

The good ones really are always crazy! I loved this, and hope you always take us on the other side of the wire with you into that bright future. Thanks so much.

I'm glad you had such a fulfilling experience! : ) I had the same experience with my first software conference. I attended all the talks I could back-to-back and missed out on all the networking and socializing opportunities to meet with people I only knew through Twitter.

I did better in my second software conference!

I had a poorer experience at the first scientific conference I went to because of concerns over "being scooped". We had to "hide" some of our more interesting results because of this fear, and it feels like that's not how Science should be.

As I went to more and more conferences I went to fewer and fewer talks/posters and got more and more from the meeting. When I first started going to meetings I set the goal to meet one new person a day. Over the years I would run into them again and we could really talk about our science and introduce them to others who could help them out and in turn be introduced to people who could help us out. By the way the big meetings are usually not in the great locations because of the absence of adequate convention facilities.

I don't understand genetics. I wish I did but there's just so much to it. I envy your genetics knowledge. =)
