New Nurse Practitioner Transition | YOU'RE NOT ALONE

This has been on my heart this week - between working 1 on 1 with mentees and seeing the landscape online of new grad nurse practitioners, I see this ALL the time.

Feeling like you're the only one feeling this way. Feeling behind, not knowing enough, and then beating yourself up for it.

If this sounds like you, take a listen-- sometimes just naming and acknowledging what's ACTUALLY going on makes a difference in how you're feeling about it.

Wow!!!

Im a dude, and I though it was sink or swim (either you thrive or fail). Honestly, I was just ready to hang it all up, screw the student loans and go back to being just a simple "worker bee" ED RN.

This video hit hard; I've been an NP for about 2 years now.

Thank You.

I smoothly sailed through FNP school, passed boards the first time, and now was accepted into a competitive fellowship program and I still don't feel like im good enough to be an APN. idk I just think fnp curriculum needs to be revamped to prepare us better.

Today was day 3 for me being a new grad NP in Internal med and I NEEDED this video today. Anxiety/imposter syndrome/not feeling/knowing enough have all been haunting me. Thank you for helping me pick my head back up so I can walk back in there tomorrow with it held high!

Listening to this while I catch up on charting. I’m 3 months in and I’m so overwhelmed. Thank you for sharing this, I feel less alone now!

Thank you thank you thank you for this. NP with 6 months experience here and that feeling like you are never doing enough or ever caught up is so real. It’s hard going from the expert as an RN back to being the beginner again especially in a small practice where you feel like your resources are thin. I appreciate your channel so much!

Liz, great video! I'm halfway through my 5th week as a new FNP at a primary care clinic. Your honesty is greatly appreciated, ; more than you know. At 50 years old and with 15 years of various years of RN exprience, I sense a little bit of intimidation and resentment from my younger more experienced NP/PA peers. They are helpful when I ask questions, but I do not feel the support I know I will provide to others that will be in myt shoes. Like they do not remember how it felt to be fresh out of the gate. Much like I did at the RN level. I definietly feel lost and behind; wondering why I did this. Again, your candidness in this video gives me the hope to hold on and take the time I need to be safe and effective as a new provider. Sincerely
Rob. S. CRNP

Thank you for this! I just finished my first week as a new grad NP in internal med and while I have great support, it is still very challenging. I wanted to cry watching this when you said "thank you for putting your beautiful heart into the world". I think that's why we're all here, to take the very best care of our patients. You help us do that and you are amazing at it! Keep doing what you do!! :)

Physician assistant here! I’ve been in clinical practice for 2 years and the complexity of clinical practice as well as the amount of mental and emotional energy that it requires is blows my mind! Thanks for the reminder that we are in this together, we are always learning, we are doing better than we think, and even the seemingly small things we do for our patients can make an impact. Thank you, you are amazing!

Thank you so much for this! I really needed to hear this. I just completed my first clinical rotation and I started to think I had made a mistake by going to NP school but hearing messages like this and understanding that it is a "marathon" and not a sprint is profound!!! Again, thank you!

I started my job in June, and I'd say that I'm struggling like you wouldn't believe, but after this video, I know you'd believe. Just here seeking videos just like this so that I know I'm not crazy, alone or running with the idea that this is too hard or that I'm a failure. This helps. Thank you so much.

Thank you so much! The hardest part for me is starting out as a new NP just as the pandemic hit, being told I'm 'non-essential' as a new NP and not being able to practice so soon after graduating, your website and guidance has really helped me to get my confidence back.

I was searching for something else and came across you post. Thank you so much for sharing this, for I really felt like I was alone on my first NP job. I relocated to another state for the position and it was extremely difficult for me about 4-6 months into to the job; I lasted 1 yr and went back to travel nursing within my organization this past Oct. I begin to neglect my own health due to the stress of the job. I have sense then destressed and recouped and ready to go back in. Your video really helped me and assured me that I am not alone in making this transition. Thank you for sharing!
