Deal breaker. I've been there and done that, worked hard and sacrificed on my own to free myself from the debt slavery I was in, never again...her debt will become yours, lesson not learned.

Just remember when you marry someone with debt, it becomes your responsibility as well.

Dave will say any man should take on any woman regardless of her debt. Not the other way around. Just watch his shows - over and over he does this. Men are savers and women drive 80% of consumer spending.

It depends on how much debt she has and what her lifestyle and spending habits are. Does she have a plan for not only eliminating her debt, but where she sees herself in 1, 5 and 10 years from now. Personally, no way I would ever marry anyone who lacks the discipline to manage her finances.

I dated my soon to be husband for two years. We have lived together for another 3.7 years. We're getting married in 43 days. Halloween. We definitely know each others money behavior. After taking FPU we haven't had one argument about money. We r ven agreed on everything we want for the wedding. Our wedding will cost $300.00 not $30, 000.

I agree with Dave on this one. People need to discuss money before tying the knot.

*It was a woman. SHE is not marriage material. He should at least postone the wedding until the debt is fully paid off. Look up MGTOW.*

Wow I find these comments really disappointing and privileged. I’m getting the impression that a lot of people here think people rack up debt 100% from being irresponsible and doing things like buying cars and going shopping...

In America, attending college, having a health condition, getting an injury, or taking care of a sick relative could easily put you into 6-figures of debt. Not everyone has the privilege of mommy and daddy taking care of the tab

I disagree. If a woman has 300, 000 in debt and honestly wants to get out, you still DO NOT MARRY HER!!!!
Marrying her even though she understands and truly wants to change the situation, STILL means YOU will be the one paying for it because when you marry someone, you are marrying their debt too. Where do you think she will get the money to pay for her anyone, anyone, ....FROM YOU.
There's NOTHING "GOOD" a man can get from being married that he can't get by being single. Nothing.
Plus, if you stay single, you will never have to split your own retirement, pay any alimony, or be responsible for her medical bills when she needs a hysterectomy.

For me it's debt free, good credit, and decent to high income earning potential. Plus being in shape or wanting to work to be in shape is a plus.

I just watched another video of Dave saying that had he known what life is he wouldn’t have gotten married. lol down with the usurious! Down with Monopoly money.

That was overly simplistic. If you buy a Ferrari you can’t afford I agree, but a three or five year financing on a car is not stupid especially if you get a low interest rate. How is that worse than someone with a debt who is “willing to learn”? People don’t change habits that easily. You don’t rack up debt overnight.

My gf and I were talking about this today. She's willing to put money earned from marriage forward into the debt, but feels that money saved prior to marriage separate as an emergency fund instead of putting it into the spouse's debt. she feels that the spouse shouldn't be entitled to it, which I agree, but shouldn't everything be combined if you vow to be one? it balances out over the course of a long marriage.

Dating a girl now that is in $55, 000 plus in debt for two cars. Talked her into selling one. She makes 1, 600$ a month and going to be reduced once school comes around. She is going to school to be a trauma surgeon. She will be in debt over $300, 000 and I'll have to pay for all the bills for many years but she also will one day make around $400, 000 a year. Your opinions?

No. You can be together but you don't marry until they've paid it off or at least the majority of it. It's an incentive for them to be responsible and protection for you in case they're trying to marry to get someone else to pay it for them.
