We Caught BIG Speckled Trout at BIG Platforms!

If you want to catch big speckled trout, there's no better month to do it than this one, and there are few better places than the oilfield structures that dot the nearshore waters of the Louisiana coast.

That's why I got up before many people had gone to bed to meet Capt. Triston Elston near the mouth of the Mississippi River in Venice, La., for a bumpy trip into Breton Sound.

Back in the day we would hit the Wagon Wheel with a cast net for finger mullet right before dark. Then head out after midnight to the Rigs north of Breton. Central rigs were huge. The trout are too.

I'll be dammed if i drive to Venice for a freaking red fish...we fish freshwater bayou. Specks on the outside, large mouth bass and reds inside..

Unpopular opinion, so please don’t flame me too bad. If the state would lower the limit to say, 15 fish PP at 15” length, Louisiana would likely see a trout fishery the likes you have never seen. With the amount of bait, those fish could get to 30” like we get here in Texas, but in stupid numbers.
