About 60,000 women serve in Ukraine's armed forces | DW News

Out of more than 400,000 soldiers currently serving in the Ukrainian armed forces, about 15% are women. The majority serve in supporting roles. But some have gone to fight on the frontlines in Ukraine's ongoing war against the Russian invasion. DW's Max Zander reports from Ukraine.

Women can aim and pull a trigger as well as any man. It comes down to training and skill, gender doe not matter. If I had a woman who wished to come fight, I would eagerly welcome and accept them as part of the team. If she can do the job, why not let her fight. Even new men must prove themselves in battle, no more than as a woman would. I applaud such women.

Ukraine's Army counted approximately 2.2 million military personnel as of 2024. Of them, 900, 000 were active military staff, the si called under 20% to s actually less then 10 and in the range if 2.2 millions that is less then 5 %, now those women fighting for Ukraine are titans, but as general women's participation is less then dw wants us to believe
