Nice vs. Kind

Emma Mae is joined by her mom, aka “Momma J”, on the podcast today to talk about the difference between kindness and niceness. These two words can easily be thought of as synonyms, but Emma and Momma J dive into the reality that they actually have different motives behind them. Being nice keeps us from transparency, the margin in our lives, and deep relationships. While being kind is inviting and gracious, it is also very bold and honest. In this conversation, we are encouraged to look at the life of Jesus to see what true kindness looks like and Momma J gives advice to those who have a hard time making decisions with a filter of people pleasing. This episode is sure to bring insight and we pray it blesses you in your relationship with God, yourself, and others.

GREAT TOPIC ! I always hated the word NICE ! I always say the devil is NICE ! And yes ! Christ is KINDNESS and we need to be kind to show his nature. Love your neighbor AS YOURSELF. For years I’ve heard in the church we don’t live by our feelings we live by faith ! We need to live by our feelings to be whole and share true kindness and not fake kindness which I believe what ‘being Nice ‘ is . . . Authenticity vs people pleasing ! Great content ! Thanks for sharing !

What a blessing- your mom is beautiful, strong and wise. With the Lord’s help I don’t have to be “too nice” and say no and still be kind 😊

This is so sweet and refreshing. I’d love to hear your mom talk more about what it takes to be a good leader as a Christian in the workplace. 👍

5:00, I absolutely loved the point your mom made about only making promises or saying yes to something you can REALLY put your all in to. Because God has even said that whatever we do, we should put our whole heart and effort into it. And if we can’t do that, we don’t have to! It’s not being mean to say no to someone’s request or a favor, if we are too tired or too stressed we need to take care of ourselves first. That’s real. 💯

I loved this episode. I find myself having a hard time being honest with others because I know it may hurt their feelings, and it may push them away. However I want to be honest and kind, knowing that it is for their good and because I love them. Like your mom said, it may push some people away, but I would rather be myself and be honest with others, than pretend to be something I'm not.

Yessss please have her on more! Your whole family and family-in-love are just beautiful blessings!
As a first time toddler mama I’d love to hear about how y’all were raised with Christ as the center. What being a Christian and raising children practically looked like from your parents point of view and also yours. Maybe your point of view can encourage others who are on the child/teen side. Also, how do you kindle your relationship with your parents now as a married woman 🥰 Thank you for shining your light Emma Mae!

I have seen a couple of pictures on your father's social media, of your mother's expression after experiencing a Jason joke that she did not think was funny. And that, my sweet friend, is funny. :). I really enjoyed the podcast, and thank God for your family.
