Lyrics:
Let me sail, let me sail, let the Orinoco flow
Let me reach, let me beach on the shores of Tripoli
Let me sail, let me sail, let me crash upon your shore
Let me reach, let me beach far beyond the Yellow Sea
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
From Bissau to Palau in the shade of Avalon
From Fiji to Tiree and the isles of Ebony
From Peru to Cebu, feel the power of Babylon
From Bali to Cali, far beneath the Coral Sea
Turn it up, turn it up, turn it up
Turn it up, turn it up, turn it up
Turn it up, turn it up, turn it up
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
From the North to the South, Ebudau unto Khartoum
From the deep sea of clouds to the island of the Moon
Carry me on the waves to the land I've never been
Carry me on the waves to the land I've never seen
We can sail, we can sail with the Orinoco flow
We can sail, we can sail
Sail away, sail away, sail away
We can steer, we can near with Rob Dickins at the wheel
We can sigh, say goodbye, Ross and his dependencies
We can sail, we can sail
Sail away, sail away, sail away
We can sail, we can sail
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away

Enya was born Eithne Ni Bhraonain in Donegal, Ireland. Enya studied classical music at college under private tuition. On leaving college she was asked by Producer Nicky Ryan to join her siblings in their family band. She did so for a short time, but found it too restrictive musically, and so in 1982 she joined Nicky Ryan and Roma Ryan in a creative and business partnership. Enya's first commission was to write a score for Sir David Puttnam for his film "The Frog Prince". Then, the triumvirate secured the soundtrack to the BBC documentary series 'The Celts'. Enya was then signed by Warner Music and all three by EMI Music Publishing. The first album of this contract was "Watermark" with the hit single "Orinoco Flow". This was followed by "Shepherd Moons", "The Memory of Trees", "Paint the Sky With Stars", "A Day Without Rain" which produced the single, "Only Time".

How can a song released in 1988 be so timeless. This sounds like it's from the future. Enya is timeless.

I have a clear memory of hearing this song for the first time. It was a grandparents' summer house in Finland. They were making breakfast, morning sun was shining bright into the large windows across the glittering sea water, and I asked what song this was while it was playing on the radio. I didn't know the answer until years later... and all my grandparents have since been gone. I just remember how good the moment felt.

Still can't believe this came out in 1988. It sounds way ahead of its time.

This song was my Grandma’s chosen song at her funeral, 7 months ago. I had never heard it before then being only 23, but I now love Enya’s songs and this one brings a tear to my eye every single time I hear it 💔

I've spent 7 years trying to find this music from my 5th grade class. My teacher used to always play this woman's music and nothing else could ever compare to how relaxing it is. I could never find it because I couldn't remember the words, only the melody. This is a monumental moment for me. Thank you.

Back in elementary school, my art teacher would play Enya while we painted. Thank you, Mrs. Jacobson!

This song's been around a long time. I remember listening to it before the Battle of Gettysburg began. There's nothing cavalry troops love more than rocking out with some Enya before battle.

Ever listened to or felt anything more ethereal than this offering from Enya before AI replaces 'all that we know'? We're extremely fortunate to not have been born too soon or a tick too late in the expanse of time to bask in the pure melodic soothing of the soul that Enya delivers for us to appreciate.
You've blown us away once again Enya with an 'internal peace' that will most assuredly transcend all that life's trials will send our way. May you guide us tomorrow and well on into the future...

I first heard this song through the static of my car radio in the early 90's and immediately began searching for it, but failed repeatedly. I even bought a White Snake CD at a music store because it had a track on it called "Sail Away, " but it wasn't the right song.

Fast forward ten years. I got a 3rd shift job and was having a hard time sleeping during the day, so I walked into this tiny music shop that I happened to pass on my way home from somewhere. The store was dark and the only person in it was an odd looking middle-aged woman with piercing green eyes. I told her I needed something relaxing to help me sleep and she said she had just the thing. The woman disappeared and came back with an album called "Watermark" by an artist I had never heard of named Enya. I decided to give it a shot, but when I tried to pay for it she told me the store was closed, (thus the darkness, ) and the register was already shut down so I could just take it.

On my way home I popped it in. The fourth song, "Storms in Africa, " stirred something in my soul, but when I got to track 7 and "Orinoco Flow" played I nearly crashed my car. I had not heard the song even _once_ since that time 10 years earlier, and here it was, without the static, enchantingly beautiful, and free! I decided the next time I was in that town I'd go back and thank that lady profusely and buy every Enya album there was in the store! But when I finally made it back out there 6 months later, the little music shop had vanished and was replaced by a drug store.

The whole experience was odd. If it wasn't for the fact that I still have the CD I would think the whole thing was a dream.

The only reason this song doesn't have a billion views is that nobody can find it

I remember this song from my childhood in the 90s. Didn't realise it was late 80s.

This song is a masterpiece.

Me and the boys were listening to this on the A Train. You don’t have to be a homelander to have your voice sound like starlight. Her voice is almost translucent. It takes you to the deep of your spirit.

I know this will sound a bit corny, but this music in therapy helped me a great deal with my PTSD after the wars in Iraq & Afghanistan. Yeah, I know, but the 'musicology" settled my soul and had me in a good place. I now listen to it in traffic, in the marketplace and when I want to tune out the world and my town. It really helps calm me.
