Satellite shows extent of terrible destruction to the planet - BBC

Satellite images give us an extraordinary perspective on deforestation and just how vast the problem has become. In Madagascar, we see the effects of an 80% reduction in forest over 30 years. With so few trees left to hold the red earth in place, it shifts from the island into the rivers. It looks as if Madagascar is bleeding.

Cameras in space tell stories of life on our planet from a brand new perspective, revealing new discoveries, incredible colours and patterns, and just how fast it is changing.

They always say ‘take only pictures, leave only footprints, ’ but pictures over time show just how devastating the footprints of mankind really are.

I think I agree with Mayr and Chomsky: intelligence is a lethal mutation, not a beneficial trait.

People often ask, " what can we so to save our planet?!" I've said it a bunch of times and no one seems to care when something makes sense. At this point all you can do is smile.

Little things like neighbours cutting down just one tree is enough to make my blood boil. If you don't want a tree in your garden, then go live in a shitty council estate and stop ruining beautiful rural areas and the homes of wildlife 🤷‍♀️ I hate humans. They're ridiculously selfish

It is up to us to donate to reforestation campaigns or buy the land and reforest it ourselves. We don't have much time.

I watched a documentary on Madagascar on Deutsche Welle, where they blamed all this on climate change. The locals cut down all the trees which turned their country into desert, then wonder why it no longer rains. Trees release moisture in a process called Transpiration, so they basically did this to themselves.

Most here are quick to say that this is awful and that something needs to be done about it, ... yet when it comes to changing their own lifestyle to help, such as choosing not to eat meat, choosing not to breed, choosing to walk or cycle or public transport instead of cars as to reduce demand for crude oil... people then immediately become evasive or decide to point the finger at something else
