The null hypothesis (H0) is a statement about the population, the product, the design, of the capability or property of a population, that indicates failure, misconformity, or deviation from the norm if the null hypothesis is true.
By showing the null hypothesis is wrong we indirectly show that the alternate hypothesis must be true.
