After fishing for brook trout as a kid decades ago, I didn't do any fishing for a long time. Just getting into bass fishing this year. The biggest obstacle so far has been trying to figure out what the bottoms are like and what's safe to use. There's a lot of places around here (Smiths Falls on the Rideau River) that are all sharp rock anywhere near the shoreline. So I've lost some tungsten and lures to them. I can't wait to get a kayak and get out on the mud flats and lilypads.

Another great video Nathan! You're not a big fan of offset worm hooks, I'm guessing. Seen so many videos that I can't help but notice a big divide in angler preference. I tend to favor the EWG myself, but honestly haven't given enough chance to the basic worm hooks out there. But like with the 6" Zoom speed worm certainly needing a larger gap isn't a persuasive selling point, and even heard the argument made for using the offset worm hook with the 3.5" Zoom ultravibe speed craw. I've bought some and am in the process of fishing both just to know. Sometimes maybe we're better off saving our money with the ole' saying why fix what's not broken. I don't experience much lost fish with the EWG, but I'm sure some bites don't result in landed fish with all hook types!

The 6th Sense orange glitch 3 really draws in pike. I hadn't caught any yet this summer, and when I put the glitch on I caught 2 at one fishing spot and a two footer at another spot back-to-back, but hadn't even known they were there before then :D

Good video. I also tie on my hook as the last thing I do because that just makes sense to do it that way. Glass bead with Lead weight and plastic bead with Tungsten weights is totally correct if you choose to use a bead but I choose to use a clacker as an alternative to using a bead. Some clackers just have a hole drilled through it so it just looks like a thick washer basically, but some are designed with a small hole on one side and a larger hole on the other side. The side with the larger hole is designed to go over your knot and sit against the swivel. Those are the better ones to get vs the ones with the same size hole through them. Hooks I use an Owner rigging hook and an Owner J hook depending on the bait I choose to throw. Never had any hook up issues with either of those two hooks.

I usually start with a slightly longer leader and shorten it when necessary. Everyone does it differently

I've never tried using the bobber stop between bead and knot. I have put a rubber bead between the glass and knot though

You can use the Carolina Keeper which removes the need for a barrel swivel or a glass bead. Makes using this rig easier.

hi Nathan, you always provide very good video, I really like that and thank you for you teaching as well. One thing, can you provide a video about how to use of the 'tube' lure when you are available. thank you again 🙏🙏👍👍

Hey Nathan, my Texas rig rod is a 7’5” H/F 1/2-1 1/2 spooled with 50# braid to FC leader. Would this be a good option for this technique?

Hello, new fisherman here. I’m wondering why does the length of the leader matter if most soft plastics sink anyways?? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Is it a mistake to use a Carolina Keeper vs a swivel?

I never use a glass bead ever I always use a hard plastic bead for the simple fact that even with lead if that lead hits the glass bead hard enough, enough times it will break eventually. I get 50 packs of hard plastic beads from the catfish connection website I also get all my lead weights in bulk there they come in 25 packs there and it saves a ton of money in the long run.
