WOW the Spot Cat is unbelievable 😮 captain. What a great start in Cat world. For the non believers of the Catamarans. They should be out in the Rough Seas. They would change their mind. Can’t wait to see your build start. Appreciate the time you put in on your Picking boats by the side of the Road series. It is great for beginners like myself. Keep up the great job. Thanks again

Good mix of boats. Something for everyone under 30 grand. I like the cat but it's too small for me. 23 - 25 foot boats are my sweet spot. Enjoyed the video John! Keep them coming

I’d take the Rampage all day long!! It has a small block Chevy in it. A Lego set of an engine! You could easily rebuild it for not a lot of money and get as much power as you would want. It looks very well kept, has a cabin for overnights and even has teak trim. The inboard makes it great for fighting fish on the transom and the engine placement in the center of the boat down low gives it great balance and a really good center of gravity!! Again, the Rampage all day!!!

John its "Ram- Page" not rampage. The 24's were a much better hull than the 31 and others as fare as the "Slam Page" issue. I'm taking the Cat with new power all day.

I have a Shamrock 200 WAC, built by KCS, which is the same hull design as the Rampage. I also have a Shamrock 26 hardtop, which is an original Boyton, pre-KCS. The hull design is extremely seaworthy, a bit slow, and a bit wet. However, there are only a few others more stable on the drift. I fish when others are at the dock. Plus, being a motorhead, dropping in a new Chevy marine vortec long block in my garage will only run about $3K. That's a cheap repower. That Rampage is sweet.

Rampage is one of the tuffest boats out there. Been fishing one for 25 years. Takes ruff seas really well. Just don't be in a rush to get anywhere.

That little Whaler would be perfect for down here on the Santa Rosa Sound and Pensacola Bay - if it was about $3000 less expensive.

Thank you for posting this video. Quite obviously, in your neck of the woods, there are some folks who are on dope or belting the hooch way too much. In particular, when they are pricing their boats for sale.

That rampage was super clean and well cared for. But the sport cat or Carolina is the better deal. There is probably 25k into the repower on the cat. But I have a soft spot in my heart for those compact inboard battle wagons. That would be a safe and reliable fishing boat, perfect for nearshore trolling.

I'm looking forward to the eastward build. The 24 eastward is a huge 24!!

I had a friend in Key West who had a 13' whaler with 115 on the back, I think it was the heaviest motor he could attach without standing the boat straight up, it was way over the recommended HP. He could literally fly across shallow flats that no other boats would dare try to navigate. I think he drew 6 inches in full flight trimmed up with the prop throwing a rooster tail. Truth be told, he was a little crazy too so that helped... lol

I agree with your assessment on the 13’ Whaler. A new one will set you back about $20, 000+.

The Carolina Skiff isn’t a bad deal. The Rampage is a nice boat but I think it is a marina resider more than a trailerable one. The engine would need an experienced eye to check over. I wonder what kind of speed she makes. Perhaps a water test for sure for a perspective buyer.
I agree that the 21’ Cat is the meow of the litter. Best bang for your buck IMO.
Thanks for these segments of your videos!

A new 13’ Boston whaler runs about 26k out the door. I have one similar to the one in your video. Seems like the one you saw is a little overpriced in my opinion but maybe the owner is a little negotiable. Great video as always!

The takeaway for me is boats are generally much cheaper on the East Coast. All those boats would command much higher prices in the Pacific Northwest.

I'm looking for a good v20 steplift. I love the pure openness of those boats. I want to put a new motor on it and get really crazy 😂

I was hoping to see someone comment about the Rampage (either a former owner or someone who has spent time on the water with one) and write about their experience with it, as from the size and layout of it, it appears to offer an immense amount of room for all of your fishing buddies. I too have heard them referred to as slam-pages and wondered how true or exaggerated it is. Also, if it's sharp PT boat like bow entry makes for a wet ride at all.

I’m very new to boating to apologies if this is a dumb question. Given how much work was done to the Rampage in 2020, would it be worth buying for $19K and repowering?

Love the content, risking your life to cross the north rd, or was that the main rd?
