Picking Boats by the Side of the Road - What Does 10k to 155k Get You?

We are back in our home roads of the North Fork of Long Island with a new wave of used boats that have been strategically placed on the side of the road for sale.

I offer my comments at the end of the video - which would you pick and why?

Big thanks to all the viewers who give me tips on these boats (for this video, Andreas, Charles, Wayne and Dale).

One of the first things to look at when buying a “floating condo” cruiser-style boat is the canvas. New canvas for the Carver would probably be more than the cost or value of the boat. Even if it’s stored below, if it’s original, it’s probably dry rotted.

Pursuit looks like a great boat for 12, 500 invest in a newer motor still worth it 👍🏻🎣

😮 $34k for a 17' boat...I know Whalers are great and this is actually a dream boat for me. I trust the price us reasonable as you mentioned. I just....I just cannot wrap my head around the costs of boats.

I'm just gonna go ahead and say it. That price for the whaler is absurd.

I think the Pursuit is the best deal from where I’m sitting . Of course getting up close and personal, with the engine running would also be helpful.
The prices they are asking for used Boston Whalers is too steep. You could buy a lot of electronics and equipment for that Pursuit for the $20k difference between that and the Whaler. You’d be a lot dryer in windy conditions and rough seas in the Pursuit.
Another fun ride along. Thanks!

Thanks for doing this, always enjoyable. That Whaler is probably the best boat but that money is crazy.

I agree, I would want the Montauk too, but definitely pricey. It would have to be the one and not a boat I would flip or just get for a couple years.

You wont get hurt on the pursuit as much as the Whaler when it comes to resale. Dependent of course on how you run them and how long you keep them. Both can do the same but i would take the pursuit when the weather gets nasty

I’m on Cape Cod and all these boats I’m seeing on FB are on Long Island. Not that easy of a route but I’ll be there in a couple weeks . Keeping my eye out .

I see the price for the whaler but would never pay 30+ for a 17ft boat. Could get into a nice 21+ftr for that.

if engine is good id pick the pursuit. even if repowered youd be lower price than the montauk, couple extra feet in length matters, thanks for these videos.

My father in law has a ‘95 BW outrage 17’ that he repowered with a 115 zuk. Great boat and gets compliments everywhere we go. That being said, they are overrated and you simply pay for the name. My Parker has much better build quality IMO.

I would pick the pursuit for the money but if I was wealthy I would get the whaler!
