This is less of a bad ending, and more of a "This is what WILL happen in real life". A few of these happened to me (wasn't trying for a harem, happened a few years apart), and eventually grew numb to it

Plot twist: this is actually the GOOD ending. It is an important lesson for the MC about how to approach and rapport with girls. So, this year instead of going on harem shenanigans he meet a girl he liked, got to know her, confessed that he liked her and became her high school boyfriend. Their experiences together made them grow as individuals. Now year later, even though they live apart from each other and have their own relationships, they catch up from time to time.

I dont think this is much of a bad ending. Having a harem in a modern school setting would be a nightmare. As opposed to a fantasy school harem, the social norms would be much more different.

This seems like a good show idea. First episode is made like the las of a series, MC gets rejected by all of the girls, cut to a few months later. MC reminisces about how it got to this point for backstory. He goes to school and finds out the remaining students from a recently closed school are joining theirs. One of the transfers tries to get people to join his club, MC agrees to because “why not, at least someone gets to be happy”. MC mostly sits of to the side initially but as time goes on he gets more involved in the club, even making some friends and becomes happier. Then with the new school year comes a new group of students and some decide to join the club too. A good mix of boys and girls with one gradually becoming close to MC before he realizes. He gets feelings for her and reexperiences the trauma of his rejections. Some of his friends find out and learn about the trauma and help him get over it and he confess to the girl who excepts him. Later she finds out about his harem and gets a mix of jealous and worried feelings. Jealous because of him being around so many cute girls he confessed to and worried because one may change their mind and try to get with him. Her and MC do have a bit of a rough spot but soon talk it out with him pledging his love to her. With an epilogue showing that they later married and he has a few friends including some from the club, some new, some even from the harem along with a voice over about him overcoming his trauma and how it still there but along with a tough journey and help from friends and those around him it doesn’t control him anymore.

You know what? Actually a good ending. Our MC learns to not be indecisive and he also gets his self-confidence back. he shot his shot, missed, but he knows it's not the end of the world. He still has many days, many friendships and many romantic experiences ahead of him.

This is the plot of half of all NTR comics, the only difference is that this MC is able to shrug it off.

Also, the first girl would’ve known about all the other girl’s reasons for rejecting him, so in retrospect, it hits even harder that she decided to find someone else.

Considering 90% of Harem protags are constantly trying to confess to the one girl they actually like only for the other girls to keep getting in the way... which is the genre's main gag. This would be legit frustrating.

This isn't a bad ending, it's a fulfilling beginning. This artist is really growing on me, this feels like the first episode of an anime that knows how to get you hooked, his optimism isn't shattered and I genuinely want to know what happens next, even if there is nothing, which there isn't because it's a short comic, lol.

More dating sims should have a mechanic like this where if you don't focus special attention on someone you're locked out of their route/time limits for certain arcs because you can't decide who you're into. Tokimeki sort of has a gossip system where if you don't pay attention to a certain girl she'll spread rumors and make all the others hate you. I wish more dating sims had an element of difficulty like this
