My personal top 10 plant based proteins #vegan #plantbased #vegetarian

Where do I get my protein? If I had a dollar for every time I was asked this question I’d be a millionaire!

I’m going to post more info about plant based protein in the future as many people don’t seem to appreciate how much protein can be found in nuts, beans, seeds, veggies and even fruit. Enough to fuel a gorilla, elephant, rhino... you get the idea.

Plant fibre is incredibly important to our gut microbiome. It’s been removed from processed foods, so it’s vital to eat lots of natural, unprocessed plant matter to keep all the bacteria in the belly happy.

I grabbed a few things out of my pantry and will be sharing the protein content with you over the coming weeks. This is where I get my protein and of course, lots of fibre.

Have a beautiful day!

With all the research on plant-based diets ‘out there’, I’m still amazed that folks still ask where we get our protein. I’m 58, have been plant-based for over 13 years and I’m the healthiest member of my family - who all eat meat, by the way - by a long mile. Thanks for sharing your bubbly personality and your journey!

Most of these are incomplete proteins, meaning they do not have all of the essential amino acids to build muscle. You need to pair these with other types of protein to make them complete so that the body can then use/synthesise the protein for collagen/skin/hair/muscle (build and repair), etc. for example, beans/legumes and grains make a complete protein, so beans on toast is actually a good meal in terms of being a complete protein; also hummus and pitta…. Beans and seeds also make a complete protein; also nuts/seeds and whole grains, eg peanut butter on toast… The key to making these proteins valuable for the body to use them is to make them complete proteins by pairing them with a food that contains the missing amino acids. I’m a personal trainer that specialises in diet and nutrition so I felt compelled to share this to help people who are going plant-based.

I wanted to go only plant based but I had a colon surgery because I had diverticulitis. Too much fiber, any sort of beans or seeds can actually unleash a very painful episode of bowel irritation 😢

Love all those proteins...except tofu. I just can't get my head into that. (But yes, I do eat meat proteins too.) There are several of us requesting a video on how you cut your hair. Would love to see that!

No way should you replace eggs with anything. Eggs are natures Super Food. Packed with protein, vitamins, minerals, very good fats and a whole load more such as Choline (read up on this, you'll be amazed). Also the cholesterol association with eggs is complete misinformation. One of the best sources if a total and balanced protein, around 6g per egg.

A really terrific source of protein from pumpkin seeds is to use pepitas - shelled pumpkin seeds, raw and organic

Makes sense … animals eat protein base plant foods too.
For me protein sources you listed cause gas and bloating and aren’t recommended on the anti inflammatory diet.
Soy has a lot of side effects too.
I don’t see any problem with certain meats, meat has broken down minerals that the body can absorb easily.
Googled- grass fed cows -
Pasture feeding has been demonstrated to have a positive impact on the nutrient profile of milk, increasing the content of some beneficial nutrients such as Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, vaccenic acid, and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), while reducing the levels of Omega-6 fatty acids and palmitic acid.

Isn't there a lot of carbs in your ten proteins? What is your daily carb intake?

I felt inspired by your lovely videos, I started watching yesterday and instead of having cereal and milk plus White coffee with sugar. I had herbal tea with honey and avocado toast ❤ I feel better already from starting my day plant based. Thank you for the inspiration ❤

Misleading info here.
All of those protein percentages for grains and legumes refer to the dry product.
Once they are soaked and cooked, they only contain about 7% protein, rather than e.g. 19%.
They therefore don't compare favourably to chicken, as this is 25% in its normal high moisture form.

I love all these legumes too, but let's be honest!
Hummus is actually very low in protein! It has a high water content.
