The Soyuz MS-26 spacecraft launched from Kazakhstan’s Baikonur Cosmodrome on September 11, 2024, successfully docking with the International Space Station (ISS) just hours later. The crew includes NASA astronaut Don Pettit and Russian cosmonauts Alexey Ovchinin and Ivan Vagner, joining 16 astronauts already aboard the ISS and bringing the total to a record-breaking 19 individuals in orbit.
The crew is set to spend 202 days on the ISS, with plans to return on April 1, 2025. During their six-month mission, they will conduct 42 scientific experiments, including three unique studies, as stated by the Roscosmos Russian Space Agency.
This mission marks the third spaceflight for Ovchinin, the second for Vagner, and the fourth for Pettit. The docking of the spacecraft with the ISS occurred smoothly, according to a livestream from Roscosmos.
