On September 11 at 7:23 PM Moscow time, the Soyuz MS-26 rocket was launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome (site 31). Onboard the manned spacecraft are Roscosmos cosmonauts Alexei Ovchinin and Ivan Wagner, as well as NASA astronaut Donald Pettit. The ISS-72 crew will remain in orbit for 202 days.

The spacecraft will reach the Rassvet module three hours after launch, and docking with the International Space Station will take place at 10:33 PM Moscow time. Onboard the ISS, the crew of the 71st expedition awaits: Roscosmos cosmonauts Oleg Kononenko, Nikolai Chub, and Alexander Grebennkin, along with NASA astronauts Matthew Dominick, Michael Barratt, Jeanette Epps, Tracy Dyson, Barry Wilmore, and Sunita Williams.
