Fighting tears over here. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Practically NO ONE in the church speaks about mental illness this way (Dr. Anita Phillips being one AWESOME exception!). I was told growing up my depression and anxiety made me a weak Christian because good Christians didn't struggle to feel God's love and goodness the way I do when in a depressive episode.

I really enjoyed the segment on how hospitable people are towards those with obvious ailments or injury, but the same cannot be said when someone is quietly dealing with depression/anxiety/ptsd, more often than not that person can quite possibly be avoided. Sometimes we can cover it with humor or stories but the care or kindness truly needed is not available. I think people, especially in the Christian body, need to embrace and help esse the burden of others. It's not only about external things. Jesus talks again and again about the inner man. Let's truly start to make a difference and extend our care to those others who are hurting in ways we may not feel comfortable or equipped to handle. But instead trust God that He will give you the right words and posture to do so.
