I have been using the Makita 18v system for 10 years! I thought I'd share my thoughts on their 18 volt range and how it compares to some of the other options such as Dewalt and Milwaukee.

I treated myself to a few makita tools for the home shop. Surprisingly the most used one is the cordless vacuum, it gets used in the house instead of a broom.

No brand is perfect but for me Makita is near perfect and best value for money

As an electrician, I started using Makita 30 years ago for only one reason, they worked. Back then battery drivers were not what they are now and Makita was the only game in town worth playing. I still use them professionally today because they are so dependable and they are lighter than their competitors.

Although lots of guys started out with that old Makita 9.6v from the TV ad, I actually got one of the first battery drills [we started using them for screws right away] that Milwaukee came out with just before Makita got into the US consumer power tool market. Yes, I've been building that long... When I was your age... I started building scenery with double headed nails, 3 or 4 years before power screwing came along. At university, cordless was just starting out. Stagehands used to tape a mini mag light to the side of their drills for backstage maneuvers in the dark.

My system is Makita also . My 110v tools were all DeWalt which I have never had any issues with, but my cordless kit is all Makita and the oldest combo drill/driver is 10yrs old and still works along with the original 2 3ah batteries I got with it . I've been in the trade as a carpenter/joiner for 30 years .

It was a toss up between Makita and Milwaukee for me. In the end, I went with Milwaukee. I like it. But I really like the Makita stuff, especially the cordless trim router. Thanks for the vids

I’m a dewalt guy. But I have used most tool brands out there. And I can attest you can’t go wrong with DEWALT, Makita, Milwaukee or of you have the budget Hilti. I just loved the makita cordless worm drive then DEWALT came out with the flex volt worm drive and that is a beast.

I know this is an old video, and you have moved on to the XGT/40V, but your past videos on the LXT line helped me decide on diving in with Makita. I had a collection of low end tools, cordless and corded, researched the different 18V lines from the different brands. After a visit to home depot to get a feel for the various tools, and the 2024 BOGO promotion that kicked off this week, Makita was the winner. XGT would have been nice since I'm starting from scratch but I could instantly tell the lineup was too hard core for me today. Appreciate your past and current videos!

For me I was with Makita but then I changed over to Milwaukee. It was Milwaukee's 18V Vacuum that turned me back in 2014. Since then I swapped over and sold off my Makita range. For me I find Milwaukee innovative and their range is massive. They have so many more tools that others don't have. However when I did have Makita....it was awesome gear.

The first power tool I bought when I became a homeowner in 2008 was a Makita cordless drill. Still using it! I’ve also added some Ryobi tools to the mix because they have a huge product line and usually priced better than Makita.

Enjoyed this vid! I have been Black and Decker for years as my Dad used that in the 80s (even when I was in NZ in 2000 I bought a beige/greenish old Black and Decker jigsaw for 9NZD at cashies to fit out my travel van). I also have a couple of corded Hitachi angle grinders. But it was time to really choose a battery platform and I have gone Makita too - ordered the same charger you have in the vid with 4 X 5.0 ah batteries - there are lots of cheaper fake batteries on Amazon etc... but I invested in real MAkita. A bit of an initial outlay but should now be good to go for a decent amount of time.

Love it. I started out Hitachi, but have defected to Makita and now I look like the travelling Makita roadshow. 😁
That little router is great.

I have a Dewalt dw952 9.6v, that I've used for more than 20 years, always works great, very durable. I haven't babied it either. I love it but I just went Makita 18v for my impact driver. I wanted the impact driver for working on my riding mower and other garage stuff. The Dewalt will reside inside the house during its retirement years. I plan to build my future tools around the 18v Makita platform.

Thank you for the video mate, love your content.
I'm 25 years old working as a carpenter in scandinavia and I use Makita exclusively. Not that other brands are worse, I'm just used to Makita. All the modern high end brands are pretty well equal in my opinion, the only one I dislike is Hilti.

we use Makita cause everyone or every site has Makita chargers plus Makita make good stuff and all our Makita stuff has been reliable and still live, cheaper sticking to one platform
