Truly what a nightmare, I read someone had a bobbit worm in a large salt water tank. He start to realize his fish were disappearing from his tank and found it during a cleaning. He thought it was a stow a way in his coral and sand when he purchased it.

I found one in my reef aquarium. It was terrible. It wasn't this exact 1 but a relative that could burrow through rocks. It lived in a long tunnel It made in a huge rock which I had to split in half to get it out. It was over 6 ft long.

Just think: far under the sea, there exists an armored worm as thick as your wrist and as long as a crocodile, equipped with venomous spines and piercing jaws that are actually spiny projections from its pharynx, dragging helpless prey to a grisly, subterranean demise.

The Seattle aquarium had a large ocean tank with sand from the Puget sound. One day they noticed that a few fish were missing, so they set up a video system to watch the tank. Well guess what they discovered hiding in the sand. A stow away that probably came in as an infant.

When I was a teenager, I had the opportunity to spend time in summer camping on the edge of the Amazon jungles. One summer, together with a group of friends, I encountered a giant centipede. It was about 12 inches long with very bright red, black and yellow coloration. I thought THAT was something out of a nightmare. We used sticks to corral it into a large glass jar, closed the lid tightly, and took it to the museum.
I was WRONG about that centipede! The bobbit worm in this video is several orders of magnitude WORSE. I am glad they live on the bottom of the ocean and not on land.

Saw one diving in Florida and for years thought it was a giant centipede. It was about five feet long rainbow colors and just walking/slithering along the bottom of the reef. I told marine biologists about this, searched books for years and here it is thanks to the internet. I've been up close and personal to a great white but this was just poisonous and dangerous looking.

I prefer the name "Sand Striker" . Also not many people ever heard of the Bobbits. But still, this is just a freakin' nightmare, to think its hiding in the sand or coral ... waiting. I'm 72 and have never heard of this critter, and I have seen most all nature and underwater shows.
