How to Find Joy in Climate Action | Ayana Elizabeth Johnson | TED

We can all play a role in the climate movement by tapping into our skills, resources and networks in ways that bring us satisfaction, says climate leader Ayana Elizabeth Johnson. She suggests drawing a Venn diagram to map these questions: What are you good at? What is the work that needs doing? And what brings you joy? Where your answers intersect is where you should put your climate action effort. “Averting climate catastrophe: this is the work of our lifetimes,” Johnson says.

I love Dr. Ayana, she's such an inspiration!!! I first heard her talk about the Climate Venn on the How to Save a Planet podcast, and after listening, I think I've realized my niche in research ❤️❤️ I love the topics that she talks about as a science communicator, they inspire me! Dr. Ayana, you have laid this out wonderfully. Even just yesterday I started to build my website letting everyone know that I am a self-designated climate coach who will lead by example then teach others climate change preparedness so they can in turn become coaches. Great ideas come of their time to many of us at the same time. It feels like we have all been sitting around waiting for someone to do something about climate change but many of us are now realizing at the same time that change begins with us. I am going to use your ted talk in my coaching. Thanks and keep up the good work!

I feel that her idea to take actions from the things that brings us joy and we can do is very smart and beautiful. Sadly it's a very underrated idea, most people take actions inspired from trending topics like buying metal straws or using grocery bags. Which does help reducing carbon footprints, but isn't lifelong unlike her idea of how climate action should be.

In the UK, Netherlands and Belgium we have a network of climate coaches (Carbon Conversations UK, Klimaatgesprekken NL, KlimaatContact BE) our main goal is to accelerate climate conversations and climate actions by bringing together local action groups. We have a manual, workbook and games to make every meeting interactive and informative. We will gladly make use of this Ted Talk, Ayana Elizabeth Johnson! I invite everyone watching to become part of a local climate action group, it really accelerates your own contribution.

I agree with the argument that overcoming the climate crisis is not easy because we have to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions from electricity, transportation, agriculture, industry and buildings. The important points that we must do to prevent the climate crisis are what's bring your joy, what work need to do?, what are you good at?. Implementation is the keyword that we must do when we want to change the climate. For example, building a website, raising funds, holding events, recruiting talent. It's not only ourselves who think about how to change the climate but we all have to change the climate. In other words help us, help yourself, help us all to save the planet.

-Amy Goodman (1957-, Planet Earth)
“Beyond the borders of wealthy countries like the United States, in developing countries where most people in the world live, the impacts of climate change are much more deadly, from the growing desertification of Africa to the threats of rising sea levels and the submersion of small island nations.”

Hey, there is still a way to stop or reverse the effect of climate change not only in Europe but for the whole world, if we start ASAP, each year you can feel the effect of this mitigation process, but if not, everything will be lost because i can't see any positive development or technology to stop climate change, coz if there is, then there should be no climate change such as the one we are experiencing right now, even though your experts work so hard.
