Caravan towing review: 2023 Ford Everest V6 4x4 Sport tow test (Avida 2.8-tonne)

Показать описание
We've just towed a 2.8-tonne Avida all-terrain caravan with the new Ford Everest V6 Sport 4x4 model - so how did it go?

In short, it was good, but maybe not as great as you might have thought it could be.

Look, there is no other brand-new SUV or 4x4 with a V6 diesel engine that can tow up to 3.5 tonnes for this amount of money (about $70k), so it stands out on that front.

It also stands out because it has heaps of equipment and inclusions, lots of safety technology and interior gear, and it looks pretty darn snazzy, too.

But when it comes to towing? You're going to need to watch the video or read Matt Campbell's full review below!

Be interested to hear your feedback on choice of Everest Platinum or Landcruiser 300 VX as a towing tourer of 3tonne van.

well yeah it's going from leaf springs which are designed to tow and and carry loads to a more compliant watts link coil spring set up which can does the same job but with far more stress on the the actual springs, be happy that the axle is located by that wattsink rather than the elcheapo Panhard rod that other vehicles like MUX, Fortuner and Prado use which are nowhere near as good for when the vehicle is used in normal mode re: not towing.

Payload is an issue
Ball weight plus the actual weight of the towbar and 3 adults and you are probably overloaded
Without a bull bar or any luggage

Old Lion motor out of the Land Rover. Search for how many cranks have broken when used for towing. I did hear that the crank and oil feeds have been improved in the new motors, but only time will tell.

Another car that would sell like crazy in America that isn’t sold in America. Classic.

Are you guys able to do a similar tow test with the 4 cylinder please? Really interested to see how it compares.

Pity, need some hill climbing results .. when mountain ranges come into the picture my 3.0 litre Jeep GC builds up engine heat quite fast, wondering about this Ford engine?

So weight distribution bars would have improved the road handling on rear and steering too - especially carrying family & gear

Great video, how was the GCM for the Sport and Camper towing?

Hi, I have Platinum (so shouldn't be different from Sport with towing) I have setup RV but in the instrumental cluster when I try to view the towing information still shows the default trailer do, I miss something?

Isn’t the Everest coil suspension in the rear and ranger is leaf springs? That would be the major factor in how the rear end feels while towing not the slightly shorter wheel base.
I feel like he should know that 🤷🏻‍♂️

I recently got one and had it chipped, it puts down 201kws and 750nm

What was the ball weight of that setup? Apologies if I missed it. It's an important factor for predicting axle loading which might hit the limit before you hit gvm.

Thanks for the review. Clearly the new Everest has plenty of power. The payload is a bit of a problem. My 2014 Colorado has a GVM of 3150kg ie payload of just over 1ton and a much longer wheel base and heavy leaf springs. It is always stable with heavy towing. I like many aspects of the Everest but the sad reality is caravan Tares are very misleading. The weights don't include the 200kg of water in tanks the gas bottles and many other items as well as the stuff you put in. Frankly a Tare of around 2300kg is allot more realistic. You always end up adding stuff. And lighter is economical. And a fully independent rear suspension is never remotely as good as a stable leaf setup for heavy towing. No truck has this. A Ranger will be better and safer for heavier loads IMO.

Our caravan has credo wireless brake controller, can the on board brake controller be disabled and will the on board trailer sway still work on the Everest

It seems that the Ford Aus has switched Everests!!! Or Ford in South Africa has switched the models! In South Africa the Sport is 2 lt Bi Turbo the platinum is 3.0lt V6

So needing adblu does that mean it doesn’t have EGR ?

Sounds like its right on the ragged edge ! My thoughts is that 3:5t is way over safe limits. 2:750t my self imposed limit so for this van or similar RAM. 😎👍

When you talk about 3.5t towing, why don’t you go straight into GCM or don’t you know??
