I’m bundling Small Things Like These and Foster together as gifts this year. I also think reading A Christmas Carol (rather than watching it) is a perfect Christmas annual tradition and there are some stunning editions out there.

The book on the top of my giving list this year is How to Be a Good Creature by Sy Montgomery in the beautiful hardcover. I was only a few chapters in when I made that decision. Wonderful book of essays on humans and other animals both wild and domestic. Keep a tissue close by while reading.

Wow, I want all of those! I haven't seen your books here in Australia yet... I haven't seen What Writers Read yet either but will jump on it when I do. I hadn't heard of either the Penguin book of Christmas Stories or The Golden Mole, but immediately want both. And I wouldn't mind Stories for Christmas either. I love that you're both reading them to your husband and ticking them off! Oh and I can't wait to find Dorthe Nors new book. I discovered her a few years ago with Mirror Shoulder Signal, and have bought all her books. Haven't read them all yet of course, but still I want more. I want them all! Thank you so much for all the great recommendations Eric. I'm taking part in the 12 days of Christmas readathon this year and so far I 've bought two new books for this. I got The Penguin Book Of Christmas Stories and A Scandinavian Christmas Festive Tales For A Nordic Noel so far.

Asked my wife for your 2 books for my Christmas stocking so hopefully they will be there. Maggie O'Farrell 's new book is wonderful. Hope to get to Demon Copperhead next. There can never be enough accolades for Claire Keegan. Another Christmas series that comes out every year is Carol Ann Duffy 's poetry. I buy them if they don't appear in my stocking. Also buy as many books for myself as I buy for friends - ha ha

I ordered your books several days ago, and they're now making their way to me across the ocean! I can't wait. (Did you also publish a book in 2004? It's listed in Book Depository, but I guess out of print.)

Some of those covers are just gorgeous. I'd order them, but I'm worried I'd just want to hold them on my lap and gaze at them fondly without opening. 😂
