I like to melt in a pot on the stove with a couple of cinnamon sticks broke in half and a couple of cloves. Smells good 😊

As a 15 year chandler, i need to make a few corrections. These are GREAT in emergencies however: please do not use ANY essential oils, or botanicals, especially CHEAP ones. They are highly flammable and toxic when burned, especially to animals and children. If you must scent these, use fragrance oil made specifically for candles. Also, as someone else mentioned, add about 1/4in of gravel or sand at the bottom (dampened w/ water is better). Otherwise, these WILL catch on fire once the wick and the glass will most likely shatter. Make sure to be mindful of the wick to jar ratio also (smaller jars need smaller wicks, etc.)
Basically, If you’re going to be using “fire”, please exercise caution when making, and using, these. It’s definitely not worth a life!

I had a Walmart candle in a camper … working in the oil field … burned down to the bottom.. cracked the glass and burned the camper down … no one got hurt .. but 1/4 inch of gravel and water in the bottom … easy peasy

Those extra candle pieces could also be melted down and used to make firestarters.
I take dried pinecones, pour wax over them, let them cool and harden and toss one among my kindling. Doesnt have to look pretty, it can have drips. Don't even have to coat the entire pinecone. It will burn beautifully to get the kindling going and start building your fire.

Main reason for not using the Crisco container to make these candles is it's not fireproof. It looks like metal (silver) inside, but it's just paper. Better to use thick glass like Mason jars.

How clever! I'm gonna do one for the holidays. I knew Crisco was good for something LOL.

Hint: to level the top, instead moving oil around with your finger. Use hairdryer to melt the top. It reforms perfectly!

I have watched this video maybe 5 times. I made two of these candles for my son and daughter - they are grown. I used a little clove and lavender buds and star of anise on top of the candle and add beautiful aroma. They look so beautiful then wrapped the jar with twine and decorated the lid with scrap book paper made a label placed some pine needles, pit berries and mini pine cones on the lid.

The best use for crisco! Definitely better than cooking with it. Thanks for the informative video

Did you know that if you have a semi-circle of clear plastic bottles filled with water around the candle, it increases the light.

I made some of these just using a wick and crisco 10 Years ago, in old pizza sauce jars. They are 100% as they were the day I made them. I used crayon shavings to color. Just melted in with the crisco.

This takes me back to 50s & 60s then during the mid 70s when we had power cuts constantly.
Back then you couldn't get fragrance oil and I personally didn't like the smell of the tallow.
Cheers for bringing back a memory of fair to good times though hard.

M mom did this over 50 years ago when I was growing up.
She would put a few teaspoons of Vanilla or Cinnamon in the mix.
