Step inside the pitch meeting that led to Ghostbusters: Afterlife!

After the 2016 reboot of Ghostbusters didn’t play well with fans, Sony didn’t waste much time before trying to relaunch the franchise once again to bring the fans something they’d be a little more satisfied with (and make some sweet sweet money.) The result is Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which sees Jason Reitman (son of the original’s director Ivan Reitman) take the helm and bust some ghosts.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife definitely raises some questions though. Like why does everyone go about their lives after witnessing several ghosts fly right by their faces? How was the Statue of Libery walking down the streets of New York not a bigger deal, historically speaking? What’s Finn Wolfhard doing here? Why are those mini Stay Pufts alive and cooking themselves alive inside a Wal-Mart?

To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to Ghostbusters: Afterlife! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

Him agreeing to get off of his back feels like a satisfying conclusion to an arc I didn’t even know existed until just now.

I'm now convinced that Paul Rudd is the secret mastermind behind Baskin Robbins and is sneakily setting up the Ice Cream Cinematic Universe...

The horrified look before saying "but like tastefully?" 👌

“I don’t think a single Walmart would still be standing if you could turn those on” is possibly the greatest truth ever told.

Really liked the horror on his face when the producer started thinking of cashing in on someone's memoriam, then calmed down because they would do it "tastefully"

The distinction screenwriter guy makes between repairing old Ghostbusters "merchandise" rather than calling it "equipment" or "tech" just proves he knows how to get producer guy's seal of approval.

Selling merch based on deceased actors is tight!

The most unrealistic part of the movie isn't the ghosts but a clean and empty Walmart.

That was my favorite response to "Get all the way off my back" that Ryan has done. He's a master at recycling this bit over and over and still keeping funny.

If I had a nickel for everytime Paul Rudd did product placement for Baskin Robbins, I'd have two nickels which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice

"Baby versions of iconic characters are very good merchandising opportunities." Looks like we'll be seeing Baby Pitch Meetings Men.

*“The family that busts together”*

I have never heard such an amazing slogan.
The fact that no one heard it is astounding.

They knew what they were doing with this one.

"You know what, I will get off of it" is character development right there.

To be fair, the original Ghostbusters sequel established that people in this universe have an enormous capacity to forget things. Honestly, it's a miracle the Paul Rudd character remembers the Ghostbusters. They must've done his birthday party or something.

“Shove that Finn Wolfhard kid in there too!”

*Words cannot describe how hilarious that quote is* I only hope he doesn’t end up being typecast as the “90s horror actor”

These are mostly goofy, but they're also mostly accurate, so point of fact: Ray only says that Egon took *his* suits, a pack, 16 grams of fuel, and *all* the traps. Which... I didn't think about just now and makes sense considering the end of the movie.
