In my opinion, The Lesson is the greatest thing that's ever been done on a bass

Dude's not even thinking about what he's doing. He doesn't have to. He's so at one with his instrument. It's a part of his soul, and he plays 100% by feel. It's unreal.

This is one of the peaks of bass guitar mastery.

"The Lesson". He couldn't have chosen a better name for this song.

I just finished an online bass camp with Victor. The man is from another planet, in the absolute best sense of the term - both as a musician and a person.

This is definitely not solo. literally song. It is a complete song with its introduction, narration, rise, refrain and composition.
Orchestra alone with its rhythm, melody, harmony and dynamics.
polyphonic music with bass guitar only. outstanding performance💥👏🏼🙌🏼💐

4:10 - 4:15 probably one of the sweetest licks I've ever heard!

I feel lucky to have ears and be able to hear music like this.

How can I call myself a bass player after watching this? This is crazy... I love watching Wooten kill the bass!

I still se people commenting stuff like, "he should play guitar" but people don't realise, we don't play bass until we're 'good enough' to play guitar and we don't play bass because we don't want to be in the spotlight. We bass because we like the sound and the feel of a bass and want to utilise that :)

He's so gifted and his playing is very fun to listen to. Nothing robotic. Pure music

The only bad thing about this video is that it ends

It's just so scary at 4:12 and 4:57

It feels like he's telling the listeners that EVERY note he played
was intended to sound just the way he wanted.

He's not playing bass he's became itself.
Such a virtuoso!!!

3:30 onward is why he is the best bass player ever. This dude has the most talent, best soul, best technique, best feel, best everything. Such a humble person too, used to watch him every wednesday at 3rd and linsley's downtown nashville and i will always cherish those shows!

It's so weird to me that when I hear fret buzz or something like that in my own playing it annoys me to no end but with Mr Wooten it just sounds like it's supposed to be there. He truly is a prodigy

imagine being victor wooten's dad, and seeing this video. experiencing 3:42 - 5:00, understanding the change, the gift you have brought to this world. man must've grown 2 feet taller from pride and cried 2 rivers from the feels

4:57 is the most impressive thing I've ever seen done on an instrument. You just can't top that. Absolute fucking brilliance. The level of connection Victor experiences could drive you straight to fucking nirvana man i swear, holy shiiiit

not only is he an amazing bass player, but look at his expression, you can see how much effort and passion went into this written right on his face

12 years and counting, this will never ever get old. Always new. Every note passes a different message when I hear it.
