Russian state TV broadcast live footage showing Russia's fleets in various locations during annual Navy Day parades on Sunday (July 28), in contrast to last year, when most ships attended the main celebration in St. Petersburg.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, naval parades were held in the waters off the bases of the Northern, Baltic, Pacific fleets, Caspian flotilla, as well as in the Syrian port of Tartus, a Russian navy base in the Mediterranean Sea.
The ministry anticipated the participation of over 100 military vehicles and 15,000 servicemen in the celebration, but did not disclose further details.
The Black Sea fleet while not mentioned by the ministry, was included in the program as ships firing Kalibre missiles and jets dropping bombs.
Speaking at the primary navy parade in St Petersburg, Russian president Vladimir Putin warned the United States that if Washington deployed long-range missiles in Germany, then Russia would station similar missiles within striking distance of the West.
The United States said on July 10 that it would start deploying long-range missiles in Germany from 2026 in preparation for a longer-term deployment that will include SM-6, Tomahawk cruise missiles, and developmental hypersonic weapons.
In a speech to sailors from Russia, China, Algeria, and India to mark Russian Navy Day in the former imperial capital of St Petersburg, Putin warned the United States that it risked triggering a Cold War-style missile crisis with the move.
