Russian nuclear submarines and naval fleet conduct Pacific drills

RUSSIA'S defence ministry said on Tuesday (April 18) that its strategic and multi-purpose nuclear submarine had been deployed in the Pacific as part of a snap review of Russia's Pacific Fleet combat-readiness, as ordered by President Vladimir Putin.

Naval minesweepers ensured a safe departure for the submarines from their base on the Kamchatka peninsula in Russia's Far East, close to sea borders with the U.S. and Japan.

The submarines departed bases under smoke screens with special naval forces on speed boats escorting them, ministry said.

The ministry also said on Monday that Tu-142 anti-submarine aircraft of Russia's Pacific Fleet performed sorties aimed at searching for "enemy" submarines.

And if one of these boats suffers a Kursk level accident and gets stuck on the ocean floor, will any Western nations even offer any help this time around? You know that Russia would refuse any help anyway, so we could very well see another crew slowly suffocate and freeze to death trapped inside of a steel coffin.

What does a Russian submarine doing drills amount to? Staying afloat? Not taking on water? Left and/or right turn without catastrophic failure?
