Japanese elementary school | Cities: Skylines | 'ATSUKI' episode 4

Welcome to Japan, this is the city of Atsuki, a fictional realistic city-building series done with the game Cities: Skylines. This city is mostly inspired by cities such as Tokyo, Yokohama, Chiba, and Osaka, but please feel free to send me recommendations of places in Japan you think I should take as inspiration for an episode.

All the music in this series is original and produced by me as well, I am a music producer who runs a YouTube channel about music production already. This second channel is just for fun and we'll see where it takes us, for now, there will be no set schedule for the release of future videos, I will simply post a video when I have the time to make one. I already recorded and edited a few episodes of Atsuki though, so we should be fine for a little while.

Let me know in the comments how you liked the episode, also if you didn't like something or if there is something you think I should improve, then leave a comment and tell me about it.

// Mods & asset collections? //
I will be working on a few collections for this series, however it might take some time before I will have them ready. Currently, I have about 14 collections for this series total, which are not organized at all and contain loads of assets I am not using or not even subscribed to. Thus I don't want to share those collections yet. I'll try making a few collections that contain only the things I'm actually subscribed to, but even then we are talking about 10K assets total so bear with me. For now, if you have any questions about a particular asset, just let me know in a comment and I'll try finding it for you on the Workshop.

As someone who's lived in various parts of Japan (country and city side), the placement of the abandoned house is spot on however, you would never see that much foliage surrounding it. The city government would chop overgrown trees down. Also, you would be surprised how many houses are right next to train tracks. These houses are VERY cheap, usually for students or older people who don't mind the noise.

Suggestion:
Build a contruction site where a new skyscraper or big building is being built, would love to see something like that in your style!

I'd love to see how the city looks at night or with rain or something. I think a lot of series don't bother with lighting & nighttime, but I think it would look really good with this level of detail. The city looks incredible btw!

Suggestion:
Maybe you could implement some rougher segments in the mountains, so the street layout can have hairpains, which would add the drift culture in Gunma. Also, when you build the city center you could work with a highway network like in Tokyo.

The way you lay down the roads and build on them its eye pleasing

"There used to be a lot of rice field in this place."
Literally heard Filthy Frank saying the famous "Welcome to the rice fields" in my head

How about a Japanese garden, maybe in combination with a palace? (Like Kyoto Imperial palace or the Tokyo one)

This could be where an anime about that elementary school could take place. It’s beautiful like that.

Suggestion:
when the terraforming comes along, I have an idea, maybe a dormant volcano [depends on if Atsuki is on the east near the pacific ring of fire] and near the foot of the mountain, have a geothermal power plant [probably on a different episode], either active or abandoned [your choice] and add some small generic industrial complexes scattered around the lower parts of the hill, eventually leading into a small village or the main parts of the city.

Re abandoned houses - many abandoned ones here can't be sold here because their legal owners are unknown; and for the same reason they can't be demolished either by the city. Some legal changes are underway to make it easier to to do this. However, what with population movements combined a decreasing population, some 13% of the housing stock in Japan is unoccupied. And since quite a large proportion of these are truly abandoned, a realistic build should feature quite a few. So I liked to see yours :-)

This may seem a bit off the wall, but there's an interesting facility in Tsukuba called the Tsukuba RC Park (it used to be known as the Yatabe Arena). It's the world's largest indoor RC racing facility with multiple tracks for both on and off-road racing. It's also the home track of Yokomo RC, one of the top RC racing brands. Maybe something like this could be included somewhere in the outskirts of Atsuki?

Man, I jut watched Ep.3 right before I slept and now this is up! What a timing

I actually live in Japan currently, and I've been extremely impressed by how realistic you make these. Keep it up!

This abandoned house reminds me of the abandoned zone near Fukushima. Maybe that's an idea, making a small district that is abandoned after a chemical disaster in a fabric.

Respect that you used so much time trying to fix the station and that you’re going to rebuild it from the bottom

Suggestion:
In case you're actually doing some terraforming a mountain, don't forget to make some "Touge" roads (Japanese mountain roads). Some Shinto temple on the top of the mountain are also additional welcome
