Metaphysics is a branch of philosophy that explores fundamental questions about reality, existence, and the nature of being. It delves into abstract concepts that go beyond the physical world, investigating the nature of existence, reality, time, space, causation, identity, and the relationship between mind and matter.

The term "metaphysics" originated from the works of Aristotle, where his writings on the subject were placed after his writings on physics, hence "meta" (after or beyond) "physics." However, metaphysics isn't strictly about what lies beyond the physical world in the way we might understand the term "supernatural"; it's more about exploring the fundamental nature of reality, often in a speculative and abstract manner.

Just noting that while this video mentions Quinean ontological commitments, it doesn’t actually go into what they are. It might be good to combine lessons or rename this one?
